In the book, it defines Pop Music as any music that is created, disseminated, and consumed by greater number of a given population, it is not a style of music. When time progresses, we have different type of Pop Music. In mid-1930s through mid-1940s, Big Band Swing was considered as Pop music. We definitely have the different style of Pop Music now. In another words, all generations have its own Pop Music. According to the reading, consumer’s musical knowledge which includes where and when they were born and raised will all influence the change of Pop Music.
Today in class we viewed the fifth episode of Ken Burns Jazz documentary, Swing Pure Pleasure. In the late 1930’s Swing became the new Jazz among the young teenage Americans. With its popularity came fame for band leaders and bands. Bands started touring, band leaders were seen as rock stars, and swing became the obsession of many young Americans. This new fame wasn’t all flashing lights many bands and band leaders faced hardships in their career.
Faith Eleby-DR. KEAST JAZZ, POP, ROCK The Bop and Bebop era was filled with a variation of things that contributed to its success and flourishment. The Bebop era was based on nonfunctional music it was either played at a very fast or very slow pace, neither paces allowed its listener to dance. Bebop was mainly for the artist satisfaction of difficult rhythmic changes; its focus was entertainment. Bop was also known for its fantastic artists like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, it was also ideal because of the location of a performance.
The 1990’s was arguably the greatest decade for the music scene. This decade encountered the rise of the best musical artists and bands of all time. The music from this time was highly thought of because most bands were bringing back the rock and roll sound everyone loved from the late 60’s and 70’s. The band that really brought this sound back for generations to come was Nirvana. The band Nirvana wasn 't just considered to be rock and roll, their music could fall under several off branches of rock and that 's what made them the best.
Pop culture is in constant evolution molded by the people. Over the generations the style of music in the entertainment industry has transformed dramatically. Music styles have evolved from smooth blues, the Beatles, rock, and presently pop and hip-hop/rap. Many rap artists today include themes of money, women, and drugs in their lyrics. Christian rap is a non-secular way to enjoy high quality music while receiving positive messages from the artist.
But what happens when a genre of music is so influential in any possible way that it becomes something more than just a genre? The genre turns into a subculture with its own lifestyle, fashion and ideas. Both hip-hop music and rock & roll have both went through this evolution and became global and influential in many ways.
Jazz music began in black communities in the South in the early 1900s. It fused African and European styles. By 1950s a jazz style called Dixieland was popular in US and Europe. Bebop music which began in the 1940s became an accepted part of jazz in the 1950s. The most influentials are: saxophonist Charlie Parker, pianists Thelonius Monk and Bud Powell, trumpeters Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis and drummer Max Roach (Lindop and Sarah 106).
The Music Revolution The Sixties were an exciting period with the beginning of a social, economic and Cultural Revolution, influenced by the music industry that was deeply involved into causes. This propensity took place in a turbulent period where some folks called it the "decade of discontent" because of the race riots and the demonstrations against the Vietnam War. However, other individuals called it the decade of "peace, love, and harmony", because of the peace movements and the emergence of Hippies, called “flower children.” This decade was about assassinations, unforgettable fashion, new styles of music, civil rights, gay and women 's liberation, Vietnam, peace marches, sexual freedom, drug usage, Summer of Love and Woodstock Festival. All of these factors caused a revolutionary transformation in the world of well-liked music, establishing melodies as a form of raise voices and express feelings.
Mainstream Pop which is popular music listened to by the majorities. 3. Country and Western which originated in the southern United States in Atlanta, Georgia in the 1920s. Country and Western music generally remained regional until after 1945. It is important to note that during the 1930s and 1940s, some pop music became widely recognized while other styles remained regional.

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain during the mid-1950s. It began to get popular in the United States by the late 1950s. Eduardo Paolozzi and Richard Hamilton were the first to influence Pop Art in Britain while Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns were part of the early years in the United States. Pop Art uses parts of mass culture such as advertising, comic books and everyday cultural objects. It often uses images from advertising.
One decade that changed music was the 1950s. This is due to the fact that rock n roll was invented in the 50s. The people of the 50s described rock n’ roll as a form of music, stepped in blues rhythm and blues, country, and gospel (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum). This was said to be the reason that rock n roll has such a distinctive sound. Record producers searched for white men to sing black music ("America Rocks and Rolls").
Music has gone through many changes in its time, from being used as a storytelling method to keep folktales alive in tribes, to source of entertainment in modern times music has almost always been around. There have been many artists that have influenced music and helped to make it into the success that it is today. Many artist will be able to point back to one artists that changed their music style or confidence. There have been countless influential people on music from all different styles and genres of music, one is Queen. Queen was an english group who topped charts and were very popular in the 70’s, and 80’s.
‘Pop’ is a shortened form of the word ‘popular’, which has its root in the Latin word ‘populus’ meaning “people” or ‘of the people’. Technically, pop music could be seen as simply, the people’s music. Lamb, B. (2016) in defining pop music suggests “Pop music has usually been identified as the music and the musical styles that are accessible to the widest audience. This means the music that sells the most copies, draws the largest concert audiences, and is played most often on the radio”. The consumption of pop music is an everyday practice in the general life experience of any populous.
