QUESTION 2: BIG DIG COLLAPSE Public Health and safety are core primary duties and responsibilities of a professional engineer; to this trail, engineers can be held accountable for ignoring this duty as it may negligently result in causing harm to others. In the modern society engineering continues to strive and bring what has been considered to be science fiction into reality, i.e. moon exploration, though as much of success there is, there are also moral challenges being implicated; safety being number one. It is evidential from cases in the past where the notion of this duty was ignored and as a result, moral and ethical dilemmas arose. In the context of engineering one case study which attributes the consequences of ignoring the importance of public health and safety is the “Big Dig Collapse” (International case study).
