No, it’s not “watch out for sharks!” The rule is to never drink the salt water. Instead, humans, animals, plants and insects need to drink freshwater to survive. But, where does the freshwater come from? From freshwater habitats! Freshwater habitats are all over the world, and there are many different types. Here are some of the biggest ones!
Ponds and Lakes: A pond is a small body of water that is shallow enough to grow rooted plants like the cattails. Generally, there is little movement of the water and the temperature is consistent from top to bottom. A lake is a large body of freshwater they can range from small ponds to large bodies of water like the Great Lakes. Lakes generally are the source of water for rivers. Since the lake supplies the water for the river and they are both freshwater, the species and plant life may be the same.
Rivers and Streams: From space, rivers and streams look like veins on the Earth’s surface. They have the same habitat features as lakes and ponds, but the water is moving much more quickly. Rivers and streams move water from the mountains to the ocean. The longest river in the world is the Nile River at 4,145 miles. Small streams converge to make small rivers and small rivers join to make larger rivers and so

Before getting started, read through the Background Information, lesson, art project and extensions and prepare art supplies for campers.
A few more preparations for the day to consider:
Find a large, open space.
Set out all supplies in a convenient location for campers to grab.
Make an example for campers to see ahead of time.
Be prepared to split campers into work groups. 5 groups of 5-6 works well with the included supplies.
Set out all supplies in a convenient location for campers to grab. Each of the 5 groups needs 2 packs of crayons and 2 packs of markers as well as paper and pencils for each camper.
Note: Folding the paper and knowing where to draw the fish may be hard for younger campers to fully grasp, so ensure that all campers have their paper folded and fish positioned
Big Fish, by Daniel Wallace, is at its core a collection of stories, each with its own individual life and meaning. Some adapted from Herculean trails to fit the main character, others faintly resembling various mythological tales such as Odysseus's journey, and some a creation all of their own. Taken as a whole, these stories recount the life of Edward Bloom while revealing a unique relationship between a son and his dying father. After reading these stories as a whole, one thing is clear about the title, Big Fish, and that is its direct reference to Edward Bloom, the main character. Throughout Daniel Wallace’s novel, Edward bloom as a ‘Big Fish’ reveals three different levels of meaning: on the surface, the progression of Edward’s life as
An interesting feature of this lake is that it contains no large mouth predators of the fish. Normally, the spines of the fish keep them protected from these predators, but here in Bear Paw Lake, the spines actually decrease the fitness of the fish because the dragonfly larvae living at the lake bottom prey on the fish by grabbing them by their spines. Due to natural selection, eventually the fish in the lake population lost their spines on the undersides of their bodies.1 The fish that had low fitness due to their spines were killed and unable to produce offspring while those without spines or maybe with reduced spines lived long enough to
Response to Big Fish I recently attended a performance of the musical Big Fish at the Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley City, Utah. Big Fish was originally released as a novel by Daniel Wallace in 1998, then made into a motion picture by Tim Burton in 2003, and finally adapted as a Broadway musical by Susan Stroman in 2013. While there are minor differences in every version, the general theme remains similar in all.
The Native Americans of the North West Coast region adapted to their environment with the uses of fish, trees, and animal hides. The Native Americans of the North West Coast used fish as their main food resource. They made their house close to beaches and bays because it was faster to capture the fish. Fish was used more than any other food source Because it’s easier than any other food.
In reality, the brook trout is highly valued for its taste and size in many fishing industries. It’s population has gone through a steady decline throughout the years. The brook trout has suffered from habitat loss due to urban sprawl and clear-cutting forests, depriving it of its freshwater home. Let’s take a step to conserve wildlife for the future, preserving it for generations to
People used water for everything from growing crops to bathing. Before proper irrigation, people had to live near sources of fresh water. The Egyptians had the Nile, while the Mesopotamians had the Tigris and Euphrates; these rivers provide their respective civilizations with water to drink, animals to hunt, and plants to harvest. It is because of an adequate supply of clean water that these civilizations can prosper and flourish.

One of my tasks while volunteering for YMCA California was making decisions on the layout and type of activities available during camp, thereby helping ensure that everything ran smoothly. As well as making sure health and safety regulations were kept in line and other factors were addressed. To make this decision I reviewed the range of options available in terms of budget, existing activities, what other YMCA workers were trained to do in terms of specialist activities. I also gathered information from the YMCA Youth members and other sources to see what is currently in the public’s interest. I considered and developed a provisional layout and itinerary and then review any decisions made.
My favorite wild animal is a Great White Shark. It is the largest predatory fish. Great White Sharks can grow up to 15 to 20 feet long. The sharks can weigh more than 5,000 pounds. The sharks live along the coasts of Australia, South Africa, California, and the northeastern United States.
Lesson 11- Students were able to explore the NASA website and the solar system. By doing so, students found data in scientific notation and were able to make connections to science. In an upcoming science unit, students will be researching a specific planet so this lesson provided an quick
How to free dive, not with oxygen tanks, and not off of a diving board. Free diving is purely breath hold, without oxygen tanks or air pockets. Diving for lobster is very important to me because it is a hobby that I share with my dad and also my uncles. Diving is a hobby that forces many people out of their comfort zone, and puts me back into mine. I love diving because, you are able to think so many things while being completely silent.
Lake Superior by its surface area it is the world’s largest freshwater lake. Out of the Great Lakes it is the deepest lake of them all. Lake Superior also contains 10% of all the freshwater supply on the earth. Lake Superior also contains more water that all the other great lakes by a lot. There also is enough water to flood North & South America by a depth of 1 foot.
ORIGINS OF LAKES A stream of running water is a lake. Lakes usually develop as a result of tectonic/ glacial activity.
