The book starts out on Mars with Mark Watney, the main character, and introduces his crew and the people at NASA later on. The setting is Mars for the most part, but other times it is NASA or the spaceship Hermes. Since the main setting is Mars, it makes sense that the conflict is man vs. nature because Watney is always addressing problems the planet throws at him. These problems make being an astronaut on Mars very difficult and that brings on the theme of surviving, because being an astronaut stuck on Mars isn’t ever easy. All these components make Andy Weir is an outstanding writer, and his science-fiction elements and suspense built into the story are amazing.

I think how it related to college level statistic course is in further study we will meet a lot of similar cases and we need to understand why things are happening in a particular way. The only way we can accomplish that is by learning the data and trying to find the relevance and pattern. Truth is always behind the data!!! Study statistic can have huge of positive impact on our further education. For example, when we need to make a presentation or a scientific document, we can use nice graphs and table to show our viewpoint; when we make a decision we can calculate or estimate the result and make a best choice.
The Beauty of Success In the excerpt from The Right Stuff, Tom Wolfe states the fact that everyone want to hear and stand next to those who are special, like celebrities and NASA stars or astronauts who have traveled through spaces, and planets.
