Molly Pitcher was a female hero in the American Revolution. She was one of the many women who played important roles in American history but one of the few mentioned. Molly was a strong fighter for the patriots in many well-known battles in the American Revolution. After the war, she became a very respected person. She is an inspiring role model for many women fighting in wars or just women in general. Billie Holiday is one of the most influential jazz singers of her time. Her attitude, determination and most of all her music inspired artists throughout time and inspired major social change. Throughout her lifetime she explored the world of jazz, her identity, and how far the limits of her talent would take her. She exchanged her poor life, full of drugs and scandal for a life of performing the arts and showcasing her talents and abilities. Her incredible determination led her to do what she loved regardless of what anyone thought , which led to her inciting major social exchange; moving black suffering into white consciousness.

Eleanor Feagan, most commonly known as Billie Holiday, was an American jazz musician and singer-songwriter who had a career lasting nearly 30 years. The way she sang had been strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists and introduced a new way of controlling phrasing and tempo. She carried an abundant amount of emotion and character in her voice, in addition to her material. Holiday is one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time and has had an everlasting influence on American music.

In 1773, there were slaves all over colonial America working in plantations, and cleaning their masters houses. It wasn’t common for a slave to be writing poetry with their owners consent. Phyllis Wheatley’s success as the first African American published poet was what inspired generations to tell her story. It was her intellectual mind and point of view that made her different from others, both black and white. Phyllis’s story broke the barrier for all African American writers, and proved that no matter the gender or race, all human beings are capable of having an intelligent state of mind. Her arrival in America in 1761, at the age of eight is what started the story of a legend.

Viola Irene Desmond has been recognized as an important person to Canadian history because it is to commemorate and acknowledge the brave actions of a woman who took a stand against racism and segregation. Also it is important to remember and to learn from history so that history does not repeat itself. Desmond was a beautician and mentor to young black women at her beauty school. She was falsely arrested on November 8th, 1946 at Roseland Theatre in Nova Scotia. Because of this action she rose up and fought against her charges. Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a talented Mexican-American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer. She was on top of her career and was highly respected and viewed as a great role model by Mexican Americans. Selena was considered the “Queen of Tejano” music and her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the “Top Latin Artist of the 90s” and the “Best Selling Latin Artist of the decade”. According to media outlets, Selena was called the “Tejano Madonna” for the sexy outfits she wore when performing on stage. Betsy Ross was an incredible woman to experience widowhood, being a single mother, and working to further develop a skill that would help provide for her family, as well as give Betsy Ross a distinguished place in American history.
