The time a high school starts can influence the education, habits, and health of its students. Many people believe that starting the school day later will have the most beneficial effect on learners. However, assuming the length of the school day stays the same, then an earlier start time would actually be a better choice. The benefits of an earlier start time begin with a plethora of after-school activities. First, with an earlier start time there is more daylight for sports, allowing for longer practices.
These students will have to leave earlier so that they can get to their games with a school that might have an earlier get out of school time. The article “Eight Major Obstacles to Delaying School Start Times” states that “if school gets out later, some athletes might be required to leave class early in order to attend a match. In this case, students may have to choose between a game and a test, a chose no student should have to make.” Another article Should Schools Start Later In The Morning” states
We also need more energy for every class so we won’t fall asleep in class. It would be good to have energy in class everyday. Then I think we don’t really need any electives, we just need to get more credits so we can move on. If we have less class periods we will have enough time to finish work in class with help from the teacher. We will also have enough time in between classes. There will also be enough time to ask all the question about how we do our work and at least finish some of your work in class.
In order to make sure I have sufficient time to complete each task, I have formulated time frames. My strategy is to complete homework Monday through Thursday and have the weekend free. This has allowed me to balance my studies with my personal life. The admission process in order to get into the into Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is selective and I am extremely fortunate to have gained acceptance. The program will help guide me through the
While I can see their point, this problem could have a solution that not only would help athletes, but other students as well. To eliminate athletes having to stay out super late and practice in the dark, the last class of every day could be a sports period. For those who aren’t in sports, it can be used for different clubs to meet and talk, and as a study time for those students who need extra help in their classes. With this, the sports teams would be having their practices at around the same time they normally would, just during the school day. For middle school sports, this period could help reduce the need for weekend practices.
My answer to this would be no. The three reasons that I think we should not delay the school start is that students will stay up later at night, which will cause them to be even more tired, there will be conflicts with after school athletics and extracurriculars, and there would be less time to see their families. There will be examples on how it is bad that students stay up later, how it would affect after school athletics, and how it is bad that students will have less time to see their family. Importantly, if school is delayed an hour back, the students will stay up longer
So again this could in the long run help us, because if people don’t talk as much then Teachers won’t have to stop and wait for people to be quiet… and that would save us class time. I think we should have longer breaks so we can talk with people we don’t see as much. Have you ever been late to class because you can’t get there in fast enough? If we had longer breaks it would benefit both teachers and students. We should have longer breaks, because it would help the whole school… and not just
Time management is an essential quality because it will help balance out an assignment given to a student. For example, if a student was given a paper to write which was due in a week, the student could do a little a day and have a solid paper by the end if the week. Or the student could have procrastinated and waited to finish the paper the night before it was due. Which wouldn 't have been the smartest choice. Sometimes the student will procrastinate and wait to finish an assignment the night before it is due.
Electives are the time to have something you enjoy in school, to pick what makes you happy, but also what will help you later. The two electives I advise you to choose are either a T.A. (teacher’s assistant) or Spanish. When selecting an elective, you usually want to pick something fun, something that you’d look forward to almost every day. As a previous T.A., I would look forward to the period after lunch (my elective period) just to have an hour of letting my mind rest.
I personally love to take naps with my free time, but I know that if I take too long of naps or nap too frequently then I will not be getting things done that need to be done. In college you think you are caught up, but honestly you never are. If you think you have nothing to do, think again. You could be looking over and reviewing notes for your midterm or final that you will have at the end of the term. Also, never wait until last minute to do an assignment just because it’s not due until Friday and it’s only Monday.
