The Art of Effective Binge Watching With increasing streaming options, binge watching has become a household name. The main reason binge watching has become such a standard lies heavily on how busy our lives have gotten from either working or studying. College students, especially, have a higher amount of workload and are the most susceptible to binge watching. Primarily due to their schedules, some college students tend to have more time on their hands than most people. With the excess time, binge watching takes place to pass time. The excess time, if not dealt with properly, results in assignments done in the last minute. Extracurricular activities tend to take up the most time. If there is time before the activities start, that time should be dedicated to going through the easier homework. Even if the assignment is not finished, getting a head start tends to be better than doing everything at once. When there are events for the club or sport that last for a while, think ahead so there will not be a rush to finish the homework later. Away games or club activities become the prime time in which homework can actually be done. After a grueling day of hard work, the stage of relaxation finally comes. With most of the homework either done or done ahead of time, the feast that is binge watching may finally begin. Senses begin tingling as a long awaited series is pulled up. As the video begins to play, the enticement of wanting to watch a whole series begins. This is where being an effective binge watcher needs to be dealt with. Binge watching is like an addiction. It is hard to overcome and hard to stop. In order to actually stop, pacing is key. Set a specific number of episodes to watch before sleeping at the appropriate time. For example, Game of Thrones usually ends on cliffhangers which makes the inexperienced binge watcher want to keep going. Pace going through the episodes or else the whole season would be finished and there will be nothing to binge. Another factor at play may be when to sleep. Know the time classes start and plan appropriately. If there is an eight-o-clock class, stop before midnight. These methods may also apply to those who are busy with work or other activities such as being a professional athlete. Although the routine may be different, the outcome should be the same. For people on the go, replace schoolwork with “x” activity. An example of adapting the methodology to another role is a teacher.
