When I came to FAMU my major was pre-physical therapy. I chose to study pre-physical therapy because I wanted to work in the health field and assist people. I then changed my major within a semester of attending FAMU because I realized physical therapy is not something I was interested in doing. I would watch my cousin study, go to clinicals, and put cardiopulmonary science on such a high echelon. I then inquired about respiratory therapy with her and became interested in the profession. Another reason I chose respiratory therapy over physical therapy is because of the wide variety of options to choose from. My main goal is to become a registered respiratory therapist. If I choose to do other things within my career field then I would be able
To venture into the unknown of scientific and medical research is to purse on the undiscovered trail of science ; I am awe-stricken about how humanity benefits from medical innovation, paving the path for new cures for illnesses and a better anatomical understanding of the body. Advances in civilization depend on such discoveries. Thus, I have the instinctual urge to contribute to the turbulent profession of Biomedical Science. Alongside the necessity to apply Biology to medical sciences, the opportunity to attend Penn state to further study the complexity of the human body has provided the motivation to steer me towards the compelling specialty.
I have always had the intense desire to care and look after people from a very young age. I firmly believe that everyone deserves the best quality of life possible and this is what had drawn me to occupational therapy as a career path in the first place. It is so easy to take for granted all the everyday tasks we can do and we seldom consider the effect of not being able to complete them. As an occupational therapist I would be able to make a positive impact on someone’s life and make it possible for them to enjoy their life. I want the opportunity to provide support to people, help them gain independence and watch them grow more confident in their own ability. I want to be part of such a rewarding career.
I have chosen public health as my major because it is a dynamic field. I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. It is with great passion that I am dedicated and willing to contribute my service or skills to help someone in need. My philosophy of health education is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities, populations, and societies. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public health.
I chose to declare my major in Zoology because of my interest in Animal Science. Growing up, I have always been interested in animals. I grew up with cats, dogs, fish, and my beloved hamster "Hammy." Over the past several years, that interest has turned to love and appreciation for all different animal species and nature in general. I was notified of an internship at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and vigorously pursued the opportunity. I learned a lot about what a Zookeeper's daily life consists of and while I made it to the final round of interviews, I wasn't selected for the internship. This experience strengthened my desire to pursue a major in the Animal Science realm. I tend to be as helpful as possible when someone is in need of care or assistance so the idea of caring for animals piqued my interest as well.
Growing up with parents very passionate about the health care field has had a tremendous influence on my decision to pursue the health sciences. This was because of two things: my interest in helping others and my fascination with science. I was always been interested with science in grade school mostly because it interested me to see how living organisms functioned. This was especially true when it came to the human body. Helping others has also always been a passion of mine for as long as I remember. It always has given me great joy helping others to be happy or feel better about themselves in any way possible. So it made sense for me to go into college as a Nursing major. My mom has always been a huge inspiration in my life, so it made sense to me to strive to be a nurse just like her.
What was your own middle school experience like? What extracurricular activities were you involved in?
Ever since I was a little girl my dream was to grow up and be a doctor, and i still have that dream. My choice of major is Biology: Anatomy and Physiology to later go on to medical school and become an ER physician. I feel like I have always been push to be a doctor and that is why I just ended up really getting into it more and more as I grew older. I actually grew up with a variety of people in the medical field including my mother, which is when I truly realized that science and the human body fascinated me. I was ten when my mom decided to become a Medical Assistant (MA), and she would always take me to her classes with her and i remember I was just always so mesmerised by the idea of the human body.
When I was in the fifth grade, I heard about the unfortunate disintegration of the space shuttle Columbia and the demise of the first Indian Female Astronaut Kalpana Chawla and the other crew members in it. The media coverage of that incidence had a huge impact upon me. I was inspired to read and collect newspaper cuttings of issues related to space science and technology. Around the same time, I went to a school trip to the Nehru Planetarium and was bedazzled by the view of night sky. When I was in the 6th grade, my English teacher asked us to narrate a few lines on the topic “My ambition in life”. While the other students wanted to become doctors, engineers or lawyers, I proudly told everyone that I wanted to become a space scientist. I always wanted to look at the night sky, through a telescope, but before that wish could have come true I got the opportunity to look past a microscope, looking at the magnificent details of an onion peel. It was like having a Bird’s-eye view over the entire universe, a view that probably only the creator, if any, might get to witness. I was very much overwhelmed with that observation. The interest in stars sooner got translated
I have wanted to go into the health care field for as long as I can remember. My mom is a register nurse and I always wanted to be just like her. It always fascinated me learning about the body and how it works. I love to help people, love getting to do something new everyday, and I love a fast paced environment. Making a difference in people 's lives makes a person feel so good and being a nurse I could do that everyday! In my opinion, this makes me a good candidate for the healthcare field! I plan to enroll in the nursing program at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND and graduate with my Bachelors of Science in nursing. This is my plan because I know a BSN is a little longer than an RN but it will benefit me in the long run if I want
There are two engineering careers that interest me, biomedical or civil engineering. I know they may seem completely different, but due to the fact I take some classes in the engineering field, and some in the medical field, I still have not decided which way to go. A biomedical engineer creates equipment, devices, computer systems, and software used in healthcare, while a civil engineer designs, builds and supervises construction projects such as bridges, buildings, airports, and many more.
My career goal is to be a pediatric surgeon or a cardiothoracic surgeon. One of the career fields I want to choose is in pediatrics because I love children and have a soft spot in my heart for them. I would love to have a career where my everyday job was to help heal children and restore their health and happiness. Being a pediatric surgeon would allow me to do this. Being a cardiothoracic surgeon is a field I would also choose because I believe the heart is the most fascinating part of the body. I enjoy learning about it and I understand the whole cardiovascular system completely. I was given the chance to view part of a cardiac surgery and it was one of the best things I ever experienced. I immediately got excited for a future in cardiothoracic.
Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to major in a science field. As a small child I was always curious about the world and how it works. In elementary school I always looked forward to science class and I remember always feeling amazed when we learned something new. My desire to get involved in the sciences was further confirmed when I took chemistry and physics. These subjects were my favorite out of all the subjects I took in high school. After taking physics, I finally made up my mind about what I wanted in life, and decided to study engineering and physics. Attending Georgetown would allow me to explore these fields and decide exactly what I want to do within them.
It took me a little over two years to finally decide on a major, and to this day I am still working on my biology degree as a new transfer student at Rowan University. Picking my major wasn’t an easy path, but its what I needed to do to make a final decision. The question that I mentioned earlier “ What will you be doing on this date 20 years from now?” played a huge factor in me deciding what I wanted my major to be. I couldn’t see myself working with computers for the rest of my life I found it to be quite boring, and throughout high school and even in college I always had a passion for science. Learning about animals played a huge part in me role in me picking biology as my science of choice. Choosing a major can be a long path sometimes it takes longer for some people, but that isn’t an issue as long as one day you figure out what your passion is like I
My education and career goal is to obtain a degree in providing health care. Earning a degree in the medical field will give me various options in my career opportunities. A degree means higher earnings, and more room to grow in the field of my choice overtime. The more opportunities the better chance of going up higher in the positions of my career i have therefore being able to help more people and give them peace of mind in what they need.
