A phenomenon is something that is impressive or extraordinary. These words describe,African American Astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson's early life, education, and career. Ever great success has a beginning. Neil deGrasse Tyson was born in New York on October 5, 1958. Neil grew up in the Bronx with his parents, older brother, and sister. “When he was nine, he took his first trip to the Hayden Planetarium, and this struck his interest in the stars” (“Neil deGrasse Tyson” Bio). Not long after this, “Neil and his family took a trip to Pennsylvania“(Ventura 6). There were no lights in the way of the stairs like in New York, so Neil was able to see the stars better (Ventura 6). In 1997, Neil removed Pluto from the solar system model. President George W Bush asked Neil to study the future of exploring space for the US, in 2001 and 2004. Following 2005, “the International Astronomical Union agreed that Neil’s theory about Pluto was correct, and he also was asked to join NASA” (Ventura 22- 23). Who was behind the math at NASA when sending the first person to the moon? Many men were doing the math, but few women were too. The book, Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, is about four African American women who helped NASA with the math for sending the first people into space. The women didn’t go right into NASA, they started out small, teaching at schools. Getting jobs at NASA was hard since they were African American women.
In October of 2014, Bill Nye, of “Science Guy” fame, spoke at Lewis & Clark College as part of the Speaker Series sponsored by Campus Activities Board (CAB), President Glassner, and Dean Gonzalez. The advertisement for the events announced that Nye would “talk about his early history, the importance of science education, and “[inspire] others to change the world through it.” Expectations were incredibly high; Nye did not live up to them. His talk lacked a clear purpose and was hard to follow at points. Still, many students left the event reasonably satisfied with the talk.

Tyson will never be able to to repeat Kennedy’s feat for many reasons, but the two most important ones are that he will never be in a position to reach out and get the extended attention of America and that people just don 't see space as the new frontier that they once did. Space is an amazing thing and a thing that should be explored, but that is not the view that many Americans have. Not all people have the same definition of evil. Evil can be expressed in many ways. Whether that be describing a person or giving a place a scary setting. Most though, think of evil as a person rather than a place. Those true qualities of evil help show if a person is a human monster.
These two individuals have varying views on the education of black Americans. Booker T Washington took the view that proper higher education made for the betterment of the black community. He believed that taking pride in one’s race and becoming responsible citizens is what would help the black Americans against the racial discrimination they received. He also helped to create black higher education. The main difference between these two arguments is that one focused on education while the other focused more on social action.
