Jose Rizal: Not Only a Genius

On June 19 1861, history was born. The highly cultured and accomplished woman Donya Teodora Alonzo y Quintos Mercado of Meisic, Sta. Cruz, Manila delivered a child named Jose in the town of Calamba, Laguna. Jose’s father, Francisco Mercado Rizal, was an industrious farmer whom came from Biñan, Laguna. On the day that Jose was sent out to world, something special was been observed from him. Some historians said the Jose’s mothered had a hard time giving him birth because of his enormous head, big enough that if cesarean sessions are already available, then perhaps he was born that way. When Jose grew up and started schooling at Binan, Laguna, the fact of having a literally big head becomes the root bullying by his schoolmates. However, being decently raised, those bullying were nothing to Jose.
Jose came from a well-off family; His parents were leaseholders of a hacienda and an accompanying rice farm by the Dominicans. Both their families had adopted the additional surnames of Rizal and Realonda in 1849. He was the 7th child out of 11 and 2nd as a boy, next from his brother Paciano.
They came from Sta Cruz, Maynila but then found their way to Calamba, Laguna for they have rented pieces of land from Dominican Friar. In 1878, using his own “pluma” or pen, he wrote the book “Memorias de Un Estudyante de Manila” which tackles about the memories of his colorful journey as a young student in manila.
