TESC 199 Biomed Seminar Reflection The Biomed seminar course was very informational. Through each seminar I was able to learn something new and I was able to reflect on my plans. One of the essentials things that I learned through out this seminar is that planning is very important. I learned that is not a bad thing to over plan because it will keep track of my accomplishments but it will also help me be more organize and it will help me know what I need to accomplish. By planning ahead, I will be able to seek for resources if I need them. Another thing I was able to learn is the type of resources that UWT provides to students like me. One of the resources that I did not now that UWT had is a career center and that they are there to help me construct my resume and to give me constructional feedback about my resume. Applying for medical school is very competitive and is important to began the application process earlier. Preferably before June first because this is the time that I can summit my application. The medical school application consists of two part. Where the first part is where you summit the essay and the second part is the interview. It was advice to apply to approximately eight to ten schools. Keeping in mind to apply to schools that reflect both my MCAT result, GPA, academics and resume. Through this process it was advice to be patient with the results. Another thing that I was able to learn is that studying for MCAT is important and when I study for test I should at the same time be developing a routine. For example, developing a routine to the kind of breakfast I will be eating, and really focusing to practice multiple practice problems instead of just reading the practice
My name is Riley Rieck and I recently enrolled in your class. I did this because my other class (Bio150) was not a necessary science class to get a business major and was only for students looking at a science major. Being able to identify unknown microbes from systematic testing is what makes the field of microbiology so important, especially in infectious disease control. Using the testing procedure laid out by the microbiology field we are able to identify unknown bacteria present in our everyday lives, and along the way learn a lot about their characteristics that separate them from other types of bacteria. Being able to do this is vital in order for us to understand why microbes are present in certain places, how they are able to grow and what restricts their growth, that way they can be combatted if necessary. These techniques for determining unknowns are also important for isolating and testing infectious disease microbes in order to prevent spreading. Throughout my second semester I have grown in investigating the world and communicate ideas and grown my knowledge and College Career Readiness as a student. This semester has me stressed more than I have before, so stressed about AP exams and college readiness.
Additionally, I was professional about the way I asked the questions and how I responded to these questions. Although I had fairly high levels of confidence and professionalism, I feel that my competence is lacking. I feel that having lexicomp and learning using drug cards help, but I think leaning more about the pharmacodynamics of drugs will certainly be helpful in the future. Some of the things which I can improve in the future would be firstly learning more about OTC drugs.
This semester I have learned a considerable amount in Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise. The wide array of content covered helped me learn a lot about different subjects. Some of my favorite activities were the Fitness Fridays and the various speakers. I was glad this class had a mixture of ways that the material was presented because it helped really understand the topics. The main topics that I feel like changed my lifestyle the most were the Behavior Change Contract, the Access Yourself Quizzes, and the lectures.
