Statement of Purpose
Why medical Engineering? Biomedical Engineering combines my core academic interests of Engineering and Medicine,and my philosophical values of wanting to undertake a career that can apply my expertise to serve humanity on a mass scale. Engineering, more generally and Electronics in particular makes extremely difficult and seemingly impossible tasks and analysis feasible and Medicine alleviates human suffering. Recent applications combining these disciplines are only just the beginning in a field with enormous potential as Medicine transitions from Human led services to Machine led applications. It is with that quest that I am currently working in VMware, with a goal to understand and develop practical solutions to questions on practical applications we routinely ask ourselves in the classroom. VMware’s virtualization technology has changed my perspective of the way healthcare could and should be delivered around the globe. It continues to provoke questions which have not been answered just as yet, and to find answers to these questions is my objective.
The field of biomedical engineering continues to inspire me as the days pass and the wide range of possible innovations continue to stimulate and foster my interest. Specifically applications involving the areas of biomaterials and tissue engineering, biomechanics and prosthetics and micro and smart systems hold immense promise and interest. I believe that working under renowned scholars such as Melissa A. Grunlan,Akhilesh K. Gaharwar,Duncan J. Jasmine Eubanks Biomedical/ Clinical Technician I picked this career choice because I would get to work with machines, and teach people about the machines. At my job I work with many different machines and teach people about the machines. These machines are designed to help me diagnoses treatment, and also monitor patients. Many of my responsibilities are me being responsible for data obtained from professional in relationship, teaching other medical people who might come in contact with the machines, and most importantly knowing what I’m doing at all times. Clinical Microsystem Throughout the daily health care facility, microsystem is continuously at play. At my time in the hospital I observed register nurses, CNAs, physical therapist, and dietician come together effectively to help assist the patients overall safety and health concerns of the patient needs. I spent the day shadowing a nurse and observed the element of the microsystem at work. During this time, I recorded my observations of the nurse throughout the day such as patient care, tasks, medications, charting, and other duties.
The standards of a Sterling Scholar, scholarship, citizenship and leadership have been exemplified in the way I have conducted my life through the following examples. I have never really excelled in academics. I believe learning the information is far more important than getting a good grade. Math, Science, and English are not my strong suits, but I’ve always loved working with computers. From a young age I’ve always been fascinated with technology and how it helps us advance as a society.
Becoming an Anesthesia Assistant would allow me to work as a healthcare professional, help people in their time of need, and have an increasingly dynamic career. I know that my attention to detail, creativity, and critical thinking capacity developed over years working in the medical field make me an ideal candidate for the Master’s of Medical Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant program at Emory University. As my life progresses, I have created a desire for a profession that offers a varied assortment of opportunities. I find it gratifying to have a career that is not only rewarding for caring for surgical patients, but also the attraction of a career that is a life long learning process. The attractiveness of a career with different possibilities and education expansion is energizing and motivational.
As I volunteered at medical centers and learned about the professions of doctors, I will continue to pursue these interests by partaking in clubs such as the American Medical Student Association to learn more about the medical field as a career and the BioMedical Science Club to understand more about biological sciences and medicine. Furthermore, as I am currently taking a class on biomedical ethics, I desire to participate in the Bioethics Forum to discuss ethical issues facing in the medical world. Additionally, As I have partaken in Red Cross in which has allowed me to bring awareness to different diseases, I will be able to continue this activity in Heart to Heart to raise alertness to the risks of high blood pressure and Emergency Health Education to instruct emergency procedures regarding to health since I am First Aid, CPR, and AED certified. Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
I agree with almost every description of my personality prescribed to me. The personality prescribed to me was ENTJ. The main description of a ENTJ is that they are commandant. I do enjoy taking a leadership role but I do not seek the position.
I am passionate about science contributing to a better world, which explains my interest in medical research. My mother, as a nurse, exposed me to a broad range of diseases from an early age which definitely sparked my interest for medicine. My father, on the other hand, suffers from sarcoidosis in the lungs and a mitral valve disease; which also contributed to my interest. I am particularly intrigued by cancer research. I have known many people affected by this horrible and engrossing (for a medical scientist) disease.
I am currently an undergraduate at Rowan College at Gloucester County completing my pre-nursing studies. As I was growing up, I always enjoyed the idea of helping and healing others. My inspiration to become a nurse was watching my mother make a difference in the lives of elderly at a local senior living community as an Activities Assistant for years. Even though, she was unable to go back to school due to personal circumstances, the compassion she showed towards others around her was something special as she took care of them as if they were relatives. Whenever I had free time, I would just sit and play a game with the elderly residents hearing their life stories from when they were young.
In creating this portfolio, I am inclined to maintain a professional e- handbook, so to speak, of my educational and professional accomplishments over the years that reflect growth and development in my quest to be a competent nurse. Creating an e-portfolio allows for the safe documentation and archiving of my information that potential employers can have easy access to when I am in the process of seeking employment opportunities. Having an e-portfolio is a more efficient and effective way of utilizing technology to be more organized in keeping track of important information that could otherwise get lost or destroyed due to adverse events such as floods or fires. I am currently a working Registered Nurse at a long-term care facility in New Jersey and a student in the Bachelors of Science in Nursing online program at Thomas
I am certain I can make it as a pediatric surgeon because of my skills, dedication, and ambition. I am good at solving problems and I am not afraid to make changes in my life in order to accomplish what I want. I have an immense desire to succeed through hard work and perseverance. I am always eager to learn something new about the human body. The human body is something extraordinary, its captivating how the human body works and what it's made of.

My future career objective is to become an Anesthesiologist. Anesthesiologist play an important role in patients which are undergoing surgery or any other medical procedure. They often included in the process before, during, and after the procedure by determining the exact appropriate amount of anesthesia a patient receives. During surgery, it is essential that they monitor a patient’s overall health and the reaction the patient gives off to the anesthetic that is given. A typical day for an Anesthesiologist revolves around a busy schedule.
Many of these tools are coming in the form of robots or machines with robotic parts. The exact prototype of Baymax has not been replicated, but there are multiple types of robots with different abilities that have been integrated into some healthcare settings. Communication is a key component in the progression of healthcare. Technology has taken communication to new levels by introducing aspects of virtual reality to healthcare.
Fix or replace damaged tissue; biology has always been the main concern for scientists. Today, the most important instrument for tissue engineering scientists to produce replacement tissues and implants to repair or replace damaged tissue. Tissue engineering is generating a new field of study in which the principles of engineering and biology to correct the damaged tissue, uses and can renewal, operation and maintenance of tissue healing. In order to use an ideal scaffold Tissue engineering should have features such as non-toxic Cell and tissue properties to be fit.
