Life often does not go according to plan or simply plans change. I entered as a freshman in college completely undecided on what I wanted to study and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I took several exploratory classes involving anatomy and physiology because I had a strong interest in this field of study. At the same time, I took classes exploring engineering because I always excelled in math classes and enjoyed solving problems. After taking these classes I decided in my sophomore year of college to pursue a career in the medical field, thus I chose the major of biomedical sciences with a premed intention. Fast forward a few years, I have now graduated from Grand Valley State University’s Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences …show more content…
The program will also introduce me to innovative laboratory situations and experiences. I hope to gain more knowledge of the human body as a whole and deepen my understanding of not only the how but also the why of what transpires in the body. I intend to create lasting professional relationships with my professors and my fellow students that will be useful during my education and into my career. Furthermore, the master program will be a good test of whether patient care is right for me or if I fit better in a laboratory setting because I will be working in a direct patient care setting outside of school and in the lab setting within the …show more content…
To begin with, I graduated high school with honors for having over a 4.0 GPA, while working part-time throughout and keeping a well-balanced social life as well. Furthermore, my undergraduate program at Grand Valley State University in biomedical science has given me a strong base to build upon towards furthering my biomedical studies. The classes I have taken have strengthened my overall understanding of human anatomy from the cellular and microscopic levels to the systemic and macroscopic levels. Due to current financial responsibilities, I have continued to work a full-time job throughout my schooling, all the while maintaining a 3.591 Grade Point Average. In addition, several of my undergraduate classes were affected by COVID-19 during the pandemic so instead of relying on class, much of what I learned was self-taught through my notes and reading. Overall, I believe I am well prepared for graduate school and I am looking forward to new challenges and new
Growing up in a culturally diverse city in Nashville, I have gained cultural competency from my interactions with people from a plethora of ethnic backgrounds. Lastly, I am a highly ambitious person who always looks to broaden his horizons. Thus, I’m returning to school for the upcoming fall semester to take upper-division biology courses. I plan to take anatomy and physiology I and II, physiology, and research if the opportunity is available. These classes will better prepare me for medical school by helping me establish a solid foundation in the anatomical sciences.
As I got older, I started to focus more on science being that my High School had concentrations for students interested in the medical field. I followed this false dream until I got into my sophomore year of college. This is when I made the choice of changing my major from Health Science to English. When I came home and explained to my mom about my plans, her first words were “I always thought you would either be into English or Journalism because you always loved to write.” This made me feel so good about my decision because it made me feel that she
Studying Biology and Chemistry prepared me for further independent study, and my substantial laboratory experience provided me the opportunity to interact with multiple scholars and experts in the field. Within my four years in college, I took pleasure in all my laboratory courses and have benefitted from a broad exposure to different laboratories and scientific techniques and equipment which are vital in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences field. My instructors taught me to look at scientific questions using a systematic approach that will serve me well in continuing my education and throughout my career. Deciding to major in Biology positively molded me into a more confident person and guided me to pursue a fascinating specialty, such as Clinical Laboratory
My academic goals after I graduated from UC Irvine is to achieve a higher education beyond a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences. I have set going to dental school as a primary goal after graduating. My goal is to eventually obtain a D.D.S (Doctor of Dentist Surgery) degree. Working towards a specialty is an interest that I am very curious in pursuing; however, as of now becoming a general dentist is my main goal. What factor(s) made you interested in studying in the Biological/Biomedical School:
Until I decided to go to Lenape, I had not had any plans for what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. When I learned I could graduate as a Certified Nurse Assistant, I was interested immediately. However, I knew I wanted to accomplish more than that. I love learning and I have a lot of empathy so I knew healthcare would be a perfect match for me.
In the fall of 2017 I will attend the University of Cincinnati. At the University of Cincinnati, I will pursue a major in Physiologic Science. After attaining this degree, I will pursue a higher education at an accredited Physician Assistant program. I will finish my education with a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies. I possess several attributes that influenced my decision to study Physiologic Science in preparation for a Physician Assistant program.
I took all the sciences I could, eventually majoring in Biochemistry in college to understand the workings of the body. I always thought I wanted to be a pathologist. I was aware of pathology assistants but was unaware of what their job entailed. In my junior year of undergrad, I was fortunate enough to find out that my college worked with a teaching hospital, Montefiore Medical Center. Through them, I was able to obtain an internship in the Surgical
Many times, I would ask questions even to my unaware motivators concerning what they did to get to where they were. Grateful, the following year, I earned straight A in all my class throughout my three semesters with the exception of two B. Today, I am an aspiring medical doctor with a major in mathematics and a concentration in business. The road ahead is no walk in the park but why waste the opportunity, or settle for taking things easy. The study of human body, in particular the brain and the mechanisms of the brain that facilitates everyday conscious and subconscious activities is very interesting to me.
This year, I experienced both a personal and academic obstacle that correlate with one another. In January, I started the year long Medical Assisting program at my school. Prior to beginning this program, I was so excited to be getting a medically centered education, and learning about the field I wanted to expand my career in. After entering the program and learning that there is so much more to medicine than just taking care of patients, I began to lose my interest. This was shocking to me since, my whole life up until this year, I believed I was going to become an amazing medical doctor.
Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
As a dreamer and queer woman of color, pursuing a career in STEM has been quite challenging. But I have never let anything get in the way of reaching my goals and dreams. I have swam against the current in order to be where I am today, where I have dreamt of being. I am currently a second year student at Trinity Washington University majoring in biochemistry and minoring in mathematics. I am a dedicated student and an analytical and skilled critical thinker who is eager to learn.
My devotion for the medical field runs back as early as the beginning of my high school career in the year 2013. Although not quite sure what career I wanted to commit to ultimately, being a part of the health sciences at a STEM academy sparked my interest in the sciences fully and over that time period grew my decision to major in nursing when I began my college career to later pursue a career as a registered nurse. Subsequent to my expanding knowledge of the medical field after some college exposure as well as my minor experience clinically as a CNA/PCA that works with memory care patients who live with Alzheimer’s and/or Dementia came my change of mind career wise but not a change of heart, in the sense that I still wanted to work in the
Also I believe that this school has also helped me to know what path to go on in my journey of becoming an engineer. This school has helped me learn what courses that I should take as well as what path to go in when it comes to being an engineer. I really enjoy engineering and I hope that when I grow up I will be able to reach my goal of becoming a biomedical engineer. I believe that when I become a biomedical engineer I would be able to create things for people all over the
PERSONAL STATEMENT (NURFATIN BT MOHD SHAH) I want to further my study in this course because it is thrilling and rapidly- moving subject area, that is highly pertinent to the problem facing by society today. As far as I concern, cardiovascular disease is one of the popular cause of death. I am keen to learn more and involve in the latest advances in cardiovascular research. Over the years of studying, my interest in this area has increased.
