It is the people’s duty to have multiple partners and continuously have sexual intercourse. When I say synthetic happiness I am referring to a drug called soma they take that puts them into a mood where they are just blissful to be here today. This drug essentially gets rid of true emotions and falsifies a feeling of contentment. These citizens of the World Sate are required to take the drug. In order to keep the number of residents under control women simply just don’t have kids. This brings up the question of how kids are born. This is peculiar and inhumane in my opinion. The book describes kids being born in test tubes, being cloned and multiplied many times over. This is a large disadvantage of the system. Since babies are not born into this world naturally there are no mothers or fathers. This leads to having no families along with no bond between people and mainly no LOVE. Though there is no true definition of love, it is hard to have such extreme feelings under these circumstances. This is actually a main priority of the World State leaders. If people loved each other it would mess up this entire system. Another reason they control the population is due to the fact that the leaders are worried about overpopulating to point where the world wouldn’t be able to produce enough food to support all of the people. Another benefit of …show more content…
Each human being is brought into the World State with their lives already planned out for them. They don’t even get to live their life how they may want to. From day one they are habituated to like and dislike certain things and ideas. Since the authority controls the reproduction rate of humans within the World State they have learned to manipulate the process. The technique in which they use to manipulate the process is by engineering the way the person will look and even think. Five social classes have been set up grouping everybody into a certain category. The Alphas are the best looking and smartest people. From there is goes down to the Betas, Gammas, Deltas, and at the bottom are the Epsilons. The Alphas do all of the essential work that needs a lot of intellectual from scholarly individuals. The Epsilons do all of the crummy work that does not need a great deal of thought. The other classes just fill in the other roles
In America and The Pill: A History of Promise, Peril, and Liberation, Elaine May Tyler examined the history of birth control in the United States. May traced the pill's conception and evolution the United States through to the twenty-first century. The book consisted of an introduction, seven chapters, and a conclusion. May approached the topic in the context of influence of suffragist and reformer Margaret Sanger's advocacy originating in the late Progressive Era and Cold War American ideology, through to the emerging movements of the sexual revolution and the feminist movement, including acknowledging political, religious, racial, socio-economic, and gender bias factors.
Elaine Tyler May delivers a concise historical retrospective and critical analysis of the development, evolution, and impact of the birth control pill from the 1950s to present day. In her book, America and the Pill, examines the relationship of the pill to the feminist movement, scientific advances, cultural implications, domestic and international politics, and the sexual revolution. May argues cogently that the mythical assumptions and expectations of the birth control pill were too high, in which the pill would be a solution to global poverty, serve as a magical elixir for marriages to the extent it would decline the divorce rate, end out-of-wedlock pregnancies, control population growth, or the pill would generate sexual pandemonium and ruin families. May claims the real impact of the pill—it’s as a tool of empowerment for women, in which it allows them to control their own fertility and lives. May effectively transitioned between subjects, the chapters of America and the Pill are organized thematically, in

One of the most important things in any society is freedom to express yourself and do what you want. In "Brave New World" this freedom is completely erased from society. People are conditioned to hate anything that is seen as obscene or unuseful (books, nature, marriage) and conditioned to enjoy their place in the caste system and anything that the government wants them to consume. If anyone shows signs of being antisocial or an outcast, they can be threatened and sent far away to an isolated place, like Bernard was when the D.H.C. wanted to send him to Iceland. In North Korea, people face the same kind of abuse.

Culture and Religion seem to be working hand in hand in society, when looking at culture we look at characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, food, social habits (things that are done natural e.g. saying please and thank you), music and arts. With religion people often use the word to mean the worship of a god or gods. However, some religions do not have gods. One thing that all religions have in common is that they help their believers to find meaning and comfort in the world by using some aspects from that particular religion. With culture and religion playing a big role in our everyday and life choices contraceptives go against a lot of cultural and religion choices and
