Blacks In The Military

The way African Americans are treated inside of jail and outside is actually disturbing. The United States is home to 5% of the world’s population, but 25% of the world’s prisoners. To think about how big this number is disturbing and numbers keep increasing. The United States prison population in 1970 was just above 327,000, and now the current prison population is just over 2 million. On the one hand I feel American Americans deserve some of the punishment that they get, but on the other I wonder why they are treated the way they are.

Since the Reagan administration, all proceeding presidents have continued to win votes by using this dog-whistle strategy. It sends abstract messages through coded language that sounds neutral on the surface, but plays on white resentment to minorities without appearing racially motivated (SG 16). The effectiveness of this strategy becomes obvious when reflecting on some statistics about drug usage and incarceration rates. Since 1983 when mass incarceration truly began escalating, African American incarceration has increased by 26 percent. This increase has caused approximately 80 to 90 percent of drug offenders currently in prison to be African American while no evidence exists that Blacks use or sell drugs any more than Whites (NJC).

This makes it difficult for candidates to reach out to this demographic to get them to come out to vote. The link between the different ethnic groups plays a role in the voting turnout as well. The Hispanic and African American communities tend to vote at lower rates than the Anglo (white, English speaking) Texans. With the 2008 election of President Barack Obama, the first black president, the vote within the African American community rose greatly and was about equal to the Anglo vote.

Compare this to the 11 states for the South (Confederacy) and its population of 9.1 million. The North has the advantage in population and it had almost 4 times as many free citizens. Even with the small population, the Confederates felt confident in their ability to fight as they felt their tradition of hunting and general familiarity with guns would outweigh the huge population of the north. Education in the South was unfair, because the whites had better schools and the African Americans weren 't given the same amount knowledge as the whites. The North had three more years of education than the South. The education of African American children during slavery was rare and uncertain in Texas as in other Southern states. Education in the North was much better than in the South. In the North there were many oppertunites for Afican Americans to get an education.

We have the lowest numbers of active soldiers since before World War II because the cuts and shortage to the military and the forces. We should make a change in how the military get funded. I think if we continue going down

According to the Bureau of Justice, weapon arrests are 5 times greater for blacks compared to whites; numbers reading 69 for whites and 430 for blacks. Progressives will argue that the disparity reflects on the institutional racism in the criminal justice system. Others say the disparity is due to the fact that black people are disproportionately more likely to commit such crimes. There 's truth to both, yet there 's no disputing the figures. Much of it comes down to professional discretion.

“ We are not moving nearly fast enough to reduce incarceration… Over 2 million Americans live caged… a 550 percent increase in the last 40 years. ” Most of the people in the world are in jail. Therefore , incarceration is not lowering due to people being imprisoned on a daily basis. Half of the people in the world commit very bad crimes , which lead them to be imprisoned.

The Appalachia region is less racial and culturally diverse than the rest of the United States. Though, this seems to be gradually shifting. Traditionally, the region has been largely occupied by non-Hispanic whites. The 1990 census exposed the beginning of racial and ethnic change of the Appalachian region (Salob, 2014). The proportion of African Americans was 24.9 percent which was approximately three times greater than non-Hispanic whites at 8.1 percent The poverty rate amongst African Americans in Appalachia was 27 percent with 12.1 percent being non-Hispanic whites.

I think restricting civil libertied during wartime is never justified. It is not nice to classify someone as a bad person just because their country is in a war with yours. Even though both your countries are in a war together, it does not mean that you both can not have peace together because of your countries. It is espically rude to treat a whole nationality differenty, discriminate them, and to take away their rights. Many Japanese Americans, African Americans, and Mexican Americans faced discrimination during World WarⅡ.
