Many aspects of the Gustavan School of Business have impressive appeal to me. However, the blend of theory into practice, which facilitates the development of leadership, teamwork, communication and networking, has to be the focal point. The Co-op component that provides an opportunity to apply theory to real life situations and better understand the job market is central to this. I believe the blended integration of the classroom and the real world life experience that the co-op component provides will result in the building of greater confidence and further enhancement and development of the skill set needed to be successful in the business world. There is no substitute for hands on experience. I am excited about the prospect of having
I am going to have to be working with my hands a lot and spending long hours doing so. Some patients will be stressed, scared, or in pain and I must learn to be there and help in any way I can to show them I care. There is certain equipment I’ll be handling, so I would have to learn quick and

NSU Razor's Edge Leadership Program My heart began to race. I entered the spacious lecture hall, opened the door, and before me were two hundred students glancing at me. Entering the class for the first time at Florida International University (FIU) presented unparalleled opportunities on my forthcoming journey as a high school junior. When I enrolled at FIU as a dual enrollment student, I experienced uncertainty in regard to my intended major and career choice. I took courses across multiple disciplines, yet I remained remote from the ideas presented – until I met my professor for General Chemistry during my junior year.
The level of respect shown between peers and also between the staff and students was unlike any educational setting I had previously been exposed to. Additionally, I attended two or three seminars daily that invited both staff and guest speakers to introduce new topics and ways of life. I was introduced to topics such as knot theory, programming, feminism, higher dimensions, the history of waste disposal, game theory, general relativity, and string theory. I was able to interact with adults from all walks of life.
Namely, the unique perspectives that the teaching staff can offer students is impressive. As well, they offer a stimulating learning environment in a prime location, which allows for growth inside and outside of the classroom. Specifically, the unique potential for internships and shadowing is extremely attractive, not to mention the evening class structure is perfect for working professionals such as myself. My commitment to my goals manifests itself in my strong desire to attend the Elliott School and earn a Master of Arts degree in the Security Policy Studies program.
Within this time frame, RHA Executive board had the privilege of working with and getting to know Laura. It was extremely evident to us that Laura put significant time, energy, and consideration in the preparation of our staff’s training sessions. We received incredibly well-rounded training that included The Student Leadership Challenge, StrengthsQuest explorations, and ways to be a successful student leader. In addition to leading training session, Laura also actively participated in sessions lead by other professional staff members. Many people noted how unique it was to see an adviser also be an active learner and participant.
1. What is required for global product roll-out, including who expends which capital , takes which risk and reaps which reward ? Benecol could be claimed as an important nutritional innovation in the world. It is a unique compound composed of plant stanol esters, which have scientifically proven to help lower cholesterol in humans.
Students not only need to gain the knowledge for the field that they will be working in, but more importantly they need the knowledge of basic life skills on how to think and react to life experiences. It is important for people to understand that knowledge is power, and knowing that it’s not all about you is one of the best realizations one can have. We are all here to collectively work together for some type of common goal. No one person is more valuable than the other. So the next time we are waiting in line in Walmart, we shouldn’t be cursing about how the cashier is too slow, or that they need to open more lines because we are in a hurry.
Being a youth leader there, one of my duties is to help the students learning and keeping the valuable
Leadership requires broad thinking and this work with Grand City University is helping me expand my thoughts. Buller (2015) wrote extensively about both implementing changes and the necessary consideration for the people involved in those changes. As we went through the second simulation, internal partnerships and mission motivated my decisions. Leaders must address stakeholder concerns if we plan to enter into this or any other form of partnership. University-corporate partnerships have an established history (Ryan & Heim, 1997), which will help us glean insight to make them work for our stakeholders.
Disney pursues vertical integration by increasing its distribution channels for its products in house. This allows Disney to not only have control over the entire product my beginning to end consumer, but it also allows for Disney to increase its profits by cutting costs. An example of this in the case is that Disney creates its own content in-house for its channels like ABC. When Disney first acquired ABC, ABC had deals with Dreamworks, which was a rival company created by a former Disney employee, to finance jointly the cost of developing new TV shows. For Disney, this deal made no sense for them once they purchased ABC because Disney has their own production studio.
3. Horizontal integration involves the acquisition of a common company from similar firms with an aim of expanding in size, diversification of the products, achievement of economies of scale, reduction of competition and reaches new markets. Vertical integration entails companies acquiring a company that operates before or after the acquiring company in the production process. Vertical integration can attract forward, backward or balanced integration depending on the decision to own another company or not (Bissell, 2013). The essence of leverage by businesses is to multiply profits and reduce losses in financing business.
My interest in business has also led me to join Badger Business Professionals which is an organization that focuses on developing the fundamental business skills such as networking and business etiquette. This is done by bringing in Alumni and corporate speakers who pass along their advice from people already in the business industry. Even though all the speakers and Alumni pursued their degrees here at UW-Madison, each person had their own unique take and advice to share, and it was applicable to any setting in our daily lives which inspired me even more. My work experiences have also been a huge factor in my decision to pursue a business degree.
1. How does horizontal growth differ from vertical growth as a corporate strategy? From concentric diversification? In simple words, horizontal growth is the expansion of a company into adjacent markets.
During my first few weeks and especially with the upperclassmen at the school, I heard repeatedly how a small handful of shop instructors would tell their students that they “didn’t need academics because you’re all going to be working in a trade someday.” They were so unwavering about their anti-academic beliefs in the school that the administration had to intervene and help
