Introduction Credibility of social media is one of the key factors initiating and further increasing further public engagement and communication effectiveness in the social media. Blogs is one of the social media and chosen to be scoped in this literature, which have been considered to be most pertinent social medium. An effective way to measure blog credibility is hard to achieve without a valid, solid method to insure that measurement. This study has developed and measure blog credibility as well as by the usage of focus groups and a survey. This study also discusses the implications practical aspects of measuring blog credibility (Minjeong, 2010). Recently, it has been suggested that the credibility of the medium of communication influences …show more content…
Medium credibility is the perceived level of credibility that individual users have use a specific medium, such as newspapers, television, the Internet, or blogs (Newhagen & Nass, 1989; Sundar & Nass, 2001). Message credibility is the perceived credibility of the communicated message itself, such as informational quality, accuracy, or currency. Also, source credibility has focused on the expertise or trustworthiness of the source as the likelihood to provide credible information (Armstrong & Nelson, 2005; Berlo, Lemert, & Mertz, 1969; Burgoon & Hale, 1984; Flanagin & Metzger, 2003; Hovland, et al., 1953; McCroskey & Richmond, …show more content…
Nonetheless, it is significant to understand credibility judgments from blog users’ perspectives, as credibility judgments of blogs depend on who is being studied (Johnson & Kaye, 2009). The peer review process in the blogosphere can lead to the increase in the medium credibility of blogs with blog readers think that blogs are credible (Johnson & Kaye, 2004). Furthermore, Internet users consider blogs to be credible because blogs are often independent from mainstream, corporate-controlled media (Andrews, 2003), which can allow bloggers to have an in-depth content, opinionated messages in a transparent manner (Scoble & Israel, 2006). Such transparency is the key factor driving blog readers credibility judgments and audience engagement in blog-mediated contents (Yang & Lim,

The Internet is widely used around the world, originally acting as a source to find information quickly online, but nowadays it has developed so much that people also use it as a way to communicate with others, as well as sharing opinions on blogs and other social media. In the article titled “The Things People Say: Rumors in an Age of Unreason”, published in the New Yorker (November 2009), staff writer Elizabeth Kolbert discusses how individuals only believe what agrees with their views, and argues that people are the source of rumors and misinformation, especially online. Kolbert supports this claim by first introducing the video of a birther speaking out against President Barack Obama’s birth certificate as an example, describing the skepticism
One hundred years ago nobody heard about the news or current events from Facebook or the newest tweet. Until fairly recently the most up to date news had to be heard through the grapevine or read in a newspaper. Since the creation of the internet and the mass media that comes with it, information can now be spread all the way across the world in the time it takes to hit the enter button on a computer or phone and upload it to the internet. Some people think that this is a bad thing because so many things that are uploaded can be either false information or simply information that is misleading and could teach individuals the wrong thing. However, if mass media is used in the right way it can be beneficial to the accessibility of valuable information,
The central theme of media manipulation and the consequences of that are explained and uncovered in Ryan Holiday’s book Trust Me I’m Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator. Holiday offers a brutally honest insight into the world of PR and journalism, one that many people can have trouble accepting and one that makes us doubt every form of media and advertisement around us and exposes the twisted relationship between online media and marketing. In the beginning of the book, Holiday admits that he is a liar, but asks the readers to believe everything he says. As mentioned in an article published by Poynter institute, “He has a point to make, but he 's like the addict warning of the dangers of drugs, all the while snorting a line and shaking his head at how bad it is” (Silverman, 2012).
Over the years, mass communication has been defined in several ways. While some view it as a process, others perceive it as a skill. But apart from these two classifications, I particularly view mass communication as a tool since it is an essential device that can be used in one’s everyday life. It is an instrument all humans can make use of in delivering their intended messages to their family, friends and even to strangers. Charles Berger and Richard Calabrese suggested the same perception as they proposed their theory called the Uncertainty Reduction Theory.
In fact, according to an analysis done by Buzzfeed News, found that false news stories were actually getting more Facebook engagement by about 100 000 engagements than the real news stories (Silverman). While one may not see this is as an immediate problem, it can have far reaching consequences when considering the function of the media. One of the media’s roles is to inform citizens of items that concern them (McNair 19). However, once the public’s trust in the fourth estate falters, this function of the media is severely impeded. This can have a great impact on society as vital information that they may need in their daily lives becomes mistrusted and ultimately
This theory is based on the concept that there are five forces that determine the competitive intensity and attractiveness of a market. Porter 's five forces help to identify where power lies in a business situation. This is useful both in understanding the strength of an organization 's current competitive position, and the strength of a position that an organization may look to move into. Strategic analysts often use Porter’s five forces to understand whether new products or services are potentially profitable. By understanding where power lies, the theory can also be used to identify areas of strength, to improve weaknesses and to avoid mistakes.
The rise of social networking has been a hallmark of the early 21st century. In the past decade, sites such as Facebook and Twitter grew to become not only a tool for building personal connections, but also a powerful platform for spreading ideas and broadcasting expressions. Coinciding with this explosion of online social activities, meanwhile, is the public’s growing detachment from traditional corporate media. In a 2017 study, Pew Research Center found that two-thirds of Americans now access news from social media, a significant increase from just one year ago (Shearer). Given the key role Facebook plays in delivering information and shaping the perspective of its users, it is important for the company to develop a cohesive framework that

Though, many companies are finding it complex to choose the exact metrics they need to measure on their social media proposals. But in reality, there is no one way to measure. The metrics that is used to measure the achievement of one social media promotion might be significantly different from another, even for the same type of business. However a practical approach, to measure social media, is to start with the activities such as developing metrics to capture product reach, tracking sales through social media and evaluating the cost
November, 2015 Social media and its vague credibility Thesis Statement: Social media is not a reliable source of news because of its vulnerability to fake information, lack of validation, and the journalists’ inclusion of biases. Nowadays, people would not do something the traditional way, most especially, if there is a shortcut, less energy-requiring. The ever-busy world, which continuously develops, created people who lack patience, who are always up for instants—instants such as instant updates. They are always eager to know what has just happened or what is currently happening.

CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW AND THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK 2.1 INTRODUCTION: Newspaper firms have started to search for online delivery channels so as to retain the young readers.
