Davis Sr. taught me many other people many valuable lessons. One of these lessons is no matter what color or race you are that is not going to stop you from what you want to do in life or just do everyday things. The thing that surprised me most was that he made his way all the way up to the top when he started at rock bottom. Davis has affected my life by,showing me anything is possible and if you work hard enough you can do anything. I have learned many things from Benjamin O. Sr. he was a very brave, important, and strong figure to look up to. Davis was a very important man in military history, Black history, and U.S
Vivien knew he had to try to save a blue baby. So he did, and her name was Eileen Saxon. Another word that describes Vivien would be thoughtful. He is thoughtful because he helped save Eileen. Vivien was a great man and his boss needed Vivien's help so Vivien finally said, yes!
Social Group: Fathers During this time period, fathers were the “breadwinners” and expected to work and provide for their families. However, black fathers in the 1950’s particular had to work long hours because the only jobs available to them were often low paying. This directly correlates with African-American’s low place on the social ladder during this pre-Civil Rights era. It was also extremely difficult for African-American women to find work during this time, placing the financial buren solely on the father. They took great pride in their earnings, and sometimes abused their power as head of the household.
Searles proves to be a multidimensional character. However it was his relentless dedication that I enjoyed the most. Searles enlisted in the infantry the moment he got word of its formation, which reflected his dedication to the cause. The cause of African-American men fighting in the war and taking charge of their destiny. Although, Searles struggled to adjust to the harsh duties and criticisms associated with being a black soldier, he pushed through and made great strides.
Like the workers, slaves worked hard, long days with no breaks for most of the time. The working conditions were not very good at all and at most times, they were gruesome. If the slaves didn’t do what was told of them, they would be terribly beaten and sometimes even killed. Slaves and silk factory workers alike did not deserve what they have to go
Executive Order 8802 worked to eliminate racial bias in the workplace, however discrimination will always exist. However, with the help of Executive Order 8802, as a nation, the United States has accomplished many things in relation historically. Historical moments like The Civil Rights Movement in the 60’s forever changed the United States. African Americans had been free for almost a century, but did not have civil rights. Executive Order 8802 impacted The Civil Rights Movement as it gave African Americans a voice in the workforce and socially as well.
People might wonder what was so great about Malcolm X and what made him who he is today? Malcolm X was an inspiration towards African Americans. He led by example and stood up for his rights. He wanted change and worked his hardest for black people, like himself, to have fair opportunities as white men had. His assassination did not fall short because he did everything he could during his lifetime for African Americans to have equal rights and was one of the most influential leaders towards black men.
CHAPTER THREE - The Blue Line of Justice. What is the blue line of justice? Depending on the police officer and police department, the thin blue line has various meanings. Some believe the blue line represents a police officer separating good and evil, chaos and order and justice and injustice. The majority of police officers believe the blue line represents the line between life and death a police officer face every single day.
Critique and Personal Reflection The book Black Skin white Mask is overall a powerful book which can still be used and still is applicable in today’s society. Throughout the book there are a lot of strengths that made the book both accurate and captivating. Firstly, the book was written from the perspective of a Black man who experienced the effects of colonization first hand. Therefore, the descriptions of the black experience during his time were accurately and vividly conveyed to the reader. Secondly, the use and critique of other’s theories and ideas helped the reader to better understand oppression and what the Black man would experience on a regular basis.
Factories were paying far too little for someone to feed their whole family for that little, so many either would die or would turn to crime to survive; these laborers wanted equality. Men, women, and children were working and got employed in factories to work, and the dangerous and strenuous labor that children were put through to help the family expense caused many young children to die. Workers individually could not stop corporations, but collectively they could make an impact on their wages. The corporations eventually had to succumb to the pressure of labor supplies because the National Trade Union convinced the majority of the labor force to work from 12 hours a day to 10 hours. After the labor unions won, workers worked less, and they still had the same salary.
Black history month is a yearly commemoration dedicated to the accomplishments made by African Americans. As an African American female, I am persistently faced with discrimination, stereotyping and sexism. I am aware that the racism and discrimination we face today is not nearly as atrocious as what my ancestors experienced, but it is still exceedingly difficult being black in America. I give thanks to the great deal of African Americans before my time who fought for our freedom. There are countless blacks who inspire and motivate me everyday.
Pay may be low at your starting point, but as you work harder and longer you could become a millionaire. This is the blue-collared struggle. The blue-collar jobs use skills that white-collar use. In the article, “Blue Collar Brilliance”, the author’s mother said, “There isn’t a day that goes by in the restaurant that you don’t learn something.” Carpenters use math problems and have to solve them, when putting in a new cabinet. Being in a lower job does require an education.
Workers had to work hard to keep their job and be able to pay their bills. Women and children have to work in a very bad situation long in a dangerous and unhealthy environment for a long hours. Most of them couldn’t bare the situation and got sick, but still they have to work to keep their
What many people working at these places have to deal with is from many perspectives unfair. Everybody should have time to rest after continuous hours of hard work. The fact that many people do not have the right to take a break from stressful conditions is very alarming. In addition to this, many workers have to deal with poor hygiene conditions. This problem affects not only the health of employees, but also the wellness of customers, and both, should be the most important elements in this kind of business.
