In “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” there are many theories as to who Arnold Friend is and what his role. The story does not introduce Arnold till the middle and end of the story when Arnold Friend and Ellie Oscar, his friend, decides to pull up to Connie’s house trying to be gentle, but threatening at the same time. The tone sets the mood of the story, the way he talks is suave, so he doesn’t scare her as much but you could sense a little of annoyance in his voice when she refuses. He asks her to come ride with him, but then starts to threaten her family so she would get out the house and be with him. Many would argue he portrays Satan or Connie’s karma for her misbehavior. Throughout the story, there are references that relates to the bible that relates to the title. I was born and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi, an area immersed in a relaxed coastal culture and a vibrant jazz and blues heritage. Gulfport is located right off the Gulf of Mexico and less than an hour from New Orleans, Louisiana. Living near the Gulf, heavily influenced my childhood, I would spend weekends at the beach, and long hours traveling to distant islands far from the coast I called home. Rock brought the white and African American cultures together through the combination of their love of music. The genre of Rock and Roll is a mixture of white country, black rhythm and blues, and jazz. Typical instruments found in a traditional rock band include the electric guitar, drums, bass, keyboard, and vocals. Rock and Roll has a range of varying tempos, which is the speed at which music is performed. Most rock songs have a lyrical content that contains subjects such as sex, drugs, women, and politics. In Ron Howards 2005 Cinderella Man, James Braddock is an altruistic gentleman that sacrifices his wellbeing for the good and prosperity of his family. James Braddock works tirelessly to bring money in for his family during the Great Depression. James not only worked as a longshoreman, but he also boxed competitively to earn money. After working two laborious jobs and earning an income for his family, James breaks his hand. This impairment causes James a great deal of pain, but he still continues work through it. The injury was so severe that James was unable to box, and he was starting to lose his matches. The multiple loses of his boxing matches gets him fired. Consequently, the pain also causes James to not use his hand in the shipyard;

Ayn Rand taught the principle, “One must never fail to pronounce moral judgment.” The grade of morality fluctuates depending on the time, place, and society. While today’s society will compose the portrait that we are continually growing stronger and improving, the politics of men cannot overcome simple flaws such as controlling the people of their society. This is no different in the novella Anthem. The ironic name given to Equality gives the indication that perhaps society is not as equal as they would fancy. Equality has an internal conflict within the novella, which is, the mind must be free to act and think about its own findings. The transition from the Classical period to the era of Romanticism affected all aspects of creative and performing arts. Romanticism was a Western cultural movement that started in the early 1800s. The movement affected all forms of art including literature, visual art and music.

In the song, “Whiskey Lullaby,” written by Jon Randall and Bill Anderson and sung by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, the message being sent is that love so strong can be ruined with just one mistake that could lead to worst outcomes. Told in second point-of-view, the author supports this theme by describing the setting of a gloomy country home establishing the major conflict of love and death and incorporating the use of irony, tone shifts, imagery, and word choices. Paisley’s purpose is to imply that love can become something putrid and could end up hurting loved ones very deeply. This song creates a mood of sadness and mournfulness for an audience that have experience this type of situation being described in the song.

Heartbreak Hotel is a song that was recorded by Elvis Presley and was written by a high school teacher named Mae Axton and a steel guitar player named Tommy Durden. It was recorded and released in January 1956 by RCA Studios. Elvis was only 21 and Heartbreak Hotel was his first song with the new record label RCA in Nashville, Tennessee. He recorded the song with his band the Blue moon boys. It was his first million-seller and the bestselling single of 1956. It was top 5 on all pop charts simultaneously and later went to become a double platinum hit by the RIAA.

The Beatles are not only the biggest band of their time, they are one of the biggest bands of all times. The Beatles did not just sing to sing, they sang to give hope to a generation, they set some of the highest standards in popular culture, they changed music forever, and they still manage to affect our generation today.

Few producers throughout the years have been as influential as Phil Spector was to rock music. The techniques he created and popularized in the music he wrote changed both rock music and the way it was recorded. These techniques include doubling and reverbing, both of which contributed to his famous “wall of sound”. Though Phil Spector produced many songs performed by many different artists, there are some which offer stellar representations of the musical developments he made. Such songs include “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” and “River Deep, Mountain High”.

It all started in Liverpool in 1960 when four men came together to create the iconic band, The Beatles. The English rock band members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were able to create timeless music that still continues to influence artists even years after the end of the group’s time. Not only did they surpassed every limit that was reached before them, they left a mark on the music industry that most artist can only hope they achieve. They changed the way music itself was created and the way it was presented to people listening all over the world. There are few artists in the world that have been able to have the success The Beatles did, their musical achievements truly were one of a kind

The song “Five Years” is a dramatic story told by Bowie. The song tells us about earth beginning to die, and in five years time, it will be gone. The song goes on to then tell us about all the things that happen in the world when the news is broken to them by the newsman on the tv. The stylistic choices used by speakers and songwriters help give the song/poem depth, purpose and add emotion. David Bowie uses stylistic choices in the song “Five Years” to add meaning to the song and add to the overall structure by telling a story of earth dying and reactions of people after hearing the tragic news. He uses mood, tone, imagery, and rhyme scheme to convey a story to entertain, create emotion, and evoke questions within the listener.

George Harrison: The idealistic. He had faith in a perfect world that never materialized. Between every one of the individuals from the band, Harrison was the most masterfully subdued despite the fact that his optimism roused the majority of their music.

The Beatles were undoubtedly one of the best song composers of the twentieth century. Their countless number of hits have motivated and inspired millions of songwriters and fans all throughout the world. “Hey Jude” is certainly one of their most popular songs of all time. Not only has the track been recognized as one of the Beatles’ greatest songs of all time, but has been influential enough to be classified as an anthem. What was is about “Hey Jude” that was so captivating, and influential in rock and roll history?

Everybody has different musical taste and reasons of why they like it and even though, all songs are very different from each other, what they all have in common is that they make people feel something. The reason for this is the significance we give to the lyrics or the memories they hold for us. Occasionally, songs tend to have a much deeper meaning than it might seem and this song is not the exception. The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra is my favorite song because of its theme, the lyrics, and what it means to me.
