One personally important film to me would have to be The Book of life because of its heartwarming story and ethnic background. I have always been fascinated by legends and myths of Mexican folklore for its eye-popping bright colors and history. The movie is inspired by Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the dead; a Mexican holiday that is very well known in the U.S. Day of the dead is basically a day of remembrance for loved ones who have passed and are celebrated every year on November1st-2nd. The film begins with a tour guide in a museum taking some children to a restricted area. There she shows them this book, The Book of Life. The guide reads to them the story that she expects will change the behavior of the school children. The story begins with three children Maria, Manolo, and Joaquin playing at a cemetery in a day of the dead celebration. The children are being overlooked …show more content…
Xibalba picks Joaquin and La Muerte picks Manolo. The winner will be allowed to rule over the Land of the Remembered. Soon after the bet was made Maria gets sent off to a private boarding school in Spain, leaving Manolo and Joaquin back in Mexico to continue living their lives: Manolo strives to be a musician, but his father will not let him since he needs to carry on the family tradition of bullfighting and Joaquin lives his life as a “hero”. After years of being away, Maria comes back to visit her hometown. Manolo and Joaquin compete with each other to see who wins Maria’s hand. Xibalba, being the bad guy he is, cheats and kills off Manolo. The only reason Manolo agreed to be killed was because he thought Maria was killed by his fault. When he reached the land of the remembered Manolo realized that Maria was in fact not dead but put in a deep sleep. This meant Joaquin was free to marry Maria. The rest of the movie follows Manolo and his family members on the path to find the Candle Maker for a chance to speak with La Muerte (which is now in the
Three examples of men who do this are Manolo, Minerva’s husband who cheats on her, Jaimito, Dede’s husband who is abusive, and Enrique, who is the exceedingly controlling father with a secret second family. All three of these men hurt people in their lives and are portrayed negatively by the author. The first man, that the novel is not deeply accepting of is Manolo. Manolo is described as “tall and very handsome and so romantic,” by Maria Teresa but the book soon casts a disapproving light
His treatment of women varied due to their class, looks, obedience, and other qualities. When Esteban was a young man and felt his life was out of control after his betrothed, Clara’s sister, Rosa, died, he went to the small village he owned. When Esteban first moves to Tres Marías, living on his family’s country estate, he violently rapes a young peasant girl named Pancha García. Pancha never fought back becuase “Before her, her mother—and before her, her grandmother—had suffered the same animal fate. ”(Allende).
Gabriel and Maria’s arguments are portrayed through the lens of Antonio. Gabriel Marez, Antonio’s father, was a vaquero all his life. His last name signifies
The result of Juan leaving was major, but it was not what was to be expected. Usually a person falls apart when their spouse leaves them, but Maria becomes extremely cold. When her child dies from complications of birth, Maria,”becomes stolid, refusing even to cry when her child is born and dies”(DeMouy). She still battles on and continues her daily life. Throughout the movie, Parenthood, the three main parenting styles were displayed throughout as, the dictator, permissive, and democratic. The dictator form of parenting, also known as the authoritarian parent sets strict rules and guidelines and will not changing them or give any leeway. Children that have authoritarian parents usually have low self-esteem and trouble to do things on their own when they get older. Then there is the permissive parent, who rather than setting rules and guidelines, opts out of this, their discipline is not seen and if they do set rules, they don 't punish when the rules are broken. There is also a balance of good parenting seen in the democratic form.
In the novel, women play a central role aimed at focusing a lot on their concerns, struggles, as well as the growing feminist movement of Chile. Esteban’s machismo frequently creates conflict when the women go against what he wants. Jean de Satigny one night decides to tell Esteban about Blanca’s affairs with Pedro Tercero, which he strongly disagrees with, and states “I’m going to kill them both” (Allende 199). Esteban’s murderous intentions towards Pedro, as well as his daughter effectively develops the sense of violence within conflicts. When Esteban finds Blanca, his murderous intentions do not end, “[he is] unable to restrain his evil character and he charged at her with his horse, whip in the air, beating her mercilessly, lash upon lash, until the girl fell flat and rigid to the ground…”Who is it?

The movie I decided to choose was Forrest Gump. This movie has a lot of history of the United States that starts from around the 1950s and then into the present. The movie shows many trends in various social movements that were going on in the United States. The main character in the movie, Forrest goes through many individual and social issues through out the movie. Many of the issues are universal, but the movie shows the American nature of the social and individual issues that I believe help Non-American people learn some American culture through a great movie.

Demetrios Zioulis TVF 1507 – Prof. Baeva 03/19/2018 Film Analysis: Leviathan Andrey Zvyagintsev’s 2014 Leviathan (Leviafan) is a captivating tragic drama full of deception and coercion taking place in contemporary Russia. The film is shown through a widescreen, panorama style lens. The film seems to draw much influence from Russian cinema most notably, Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1986 film, The Sacrifice, and the country’s own history.
In the film adaptation of the novel, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, some of the original aspects that make the novel so timeless are not included in the movie. However, due to the vastly different medium that film is and the abstractness of the novel, it makes sense why some things would have to change in order for the story to transfer to the screen successfully. While many die-hard fans of the novel denounce the film version of their beloved story, others celebrate the presence of Adams’ wit in the movie especially through the cartoon representations of the guide entries. First of all, the Hitchhiker’s Guide is pictured much differently in the movie than in the novel.
City of God is Brazil’s most critically praised film of recent years. Based on the book of the same name by writer Paulo Lins, which in-turn was based on a true story. This essay will focus on the cinematography and cinematic conventions of the film and how sound and music plays a big role in the opening sequence, it will also focus on visual design and lighting in the film Synopsis City of God is a violent, fast-paced movie that tells the tale of the residents of this Brazilian slum.
