Sinkholes, ongoing muck fires, and reoccuring lightning strikes along with Paul’s older brother Erik cause his new town of Tangerine to seem as if the world is ending. Tangerine written by Edward Bloor is packed full of descriptive phrases that make you feel as if you are a character in this novel along with the constant action making the novel a must read book. The small town of Tangerine is anything but ideal for Paul and his mother, but for Paul’s brother Erik and their father it is the exact opposite. The purpose Erik was included in the book is so that some events that make up the plot occur and can be because of solely him. Case in point, “I looked over at Mom. She was nodding sympathetically. Did she want to hear more? Maybe the whole truth? Did she want to hear anything bad? Should I come right out and say, Actually, Mom, he wasn't killed by a tree branch. We had our orders. We had our supplies. We had a timetable.”(pg.7). Additionally, “I turned around and saw Vincent Castor. He was holding a can of spray paint. Then I felt Erik grab me from behind, easily pinning both of my arms with just one of his. I could hear my voice crying, "I didn't tell! I didn't tell!" And I remembered Erik's fingers prying my eyelids open while Vincent Castor sprayed white paint into them. They left me screaming and rolling around on the floor of the garage. Mom came out and tried to drag me over to the hose to rinse out my eyes, but I bought like a wildcat. She managed to push me into the backseat of the car and drive me to the hospital.” The two quotes reveal how choices made by his family were majors factors in Paul’s life and were good and bad. When Paul had his eyes spay painted by Erik it forever changed him and caused him to be visually impaired. The book “Tangerine” is packed full of suspense and has a plot twist for what seems like every page. I believe that almost all middle school students could find something to enjoy in “Tangerine”, but especially ones like sports. One person I would recommend “Tangerine” to is my sister because she is entertained by sports books. The overall rating I would give the book is a 9 out of 10 because I adore suspense and there was and is overloaded with amazing descriptive

Although there were no toddlers in Tangerine Erik sure did act like one… a lot. This built up hatred is just like the hatred not only brothers have, but also sisters have in household all around the world. However, Paul’s hatred towards Erik was much stronger than usual siblings. “Just as Joey and I turned around from the table, Erik and Arthur entered the back yard through the gate…
