On their way, his mom gave him a hatchet. While on the plane flight, the pilot had a heart-attack and died. This made Brian panic a lot and he ended up crashing in a lake. He had survived the crash with minor injuries, but was in need of food and water. Brian drank the water in the lake and for food, he went out looking for berries and found some gut cherries, then later found raspberries. While getting attacked by a porcupine he threw his hatchet and missed the porcupine and it hit the wall and created sparks, he now figured out how to make fire. A couple days later, he walked into the lake, he saw that the fish were swimming up to his feet, he made a bow and some arrows to hunt them and that worked. After being attacked by a skunk, he finally decided to build a better shelter. One day when Brian was out cleaning a ruffed grouse, he looked behind him and a moose was coming right at him. Next thing he knew he was picked off his feet and thrown into the water, the moose repeated this twice more but much more viciously. The tornado that had hit him saved him because out on the water was the tale end of the plane, he then remembered the survival bag in it. There was an emergency transmitter, when he pressed the button nothing happened but later that night he heard a plane engine coming towards him, the plane landed on the water and after fifty-four days in the wilderness, he had been rescued.
The book Hatchet created by Gary Paulsen is a novel about a thirteen year old boy who was on a plane which crashed in the middle of nowhere. It is also about survival, surviving in an unfamiliar environment, adapting to a new home, and utilizing the resources that are all around you. After reviewing Brian’s circumstance, I have come to the conclusion that I would not survive had I been in Brian’s place. One of the reasons why I don’t believe that I’d make it in the wilderness by myself is because I don’t have enough patience. On page 61 the book states “With these he interlaced and wove a wall across the opening of the front of the rock. It took over two hours, and he had to stop several times because he felt a strange new twinge in his stomach.”
In Gary Paulsen’s fascinating novel, Hatchet, Brian Robeson learns a very important lesson while stuck in the harsh Canadian Wilderness. Before he crashed he was a happy boy with his mom. He was on his way to the airport to visit his dad, but the plane he was traveling in, crashed. This is how he was stuck in the unfamiliar forest. He had to adapt to his surroundings because he was native to the city, not the forest.
An important event in Hatchet was when Brian made a raft and went out to the plane to get the survival kit. Brain had seen the plane out at the lake after the tornado, and He wanted to go out there and see want was on the plane. He was thinking about it then he remembered that the survival kit was out there so he really wanted to go and get it, but something bad happened. When he got out there he was hitting the side of the plane (which was very easy), but he dropped his hatchet. But he got it, and opened the plane and had seen the dead pilot.
While he was going to the northern Canada, pilot gets bad heart attack. So Brian had to drive the plane. He didn’t know how to drive an airplane but while he was driving an airplane he starts to think about the book that he read about the plane. Luckily he land on the lake but everything execept his body was sank into the lake.

When he was in the plane he was scared knowing that if something happened to the plane he could die. The text states on page 15,¨He had to fly it somehow. Had to fly the plane.

The Hatchet is a intense survival story. The main character Brian is trapped in a forest after a bad plane crash. In the story, Brian used three survival strategies to lead him to staying alive in the forest and being able to face any challenges of survival. The strategies used are Trial and Error, Positive Thinking, and Observation. In the next paragraphs I will talk about the three main survival strategies Brian used to survive the forest.
Animal attacks, natural disasters, food poisoning, tragedy, the list goes on and on. Paulsen also shows a significant amount of resilience in Brian. After a plane passes by, and Brian fails to capture its attention, he attempts to take his own life with his hatchet. This is a very important moment in the book because Brian becomes a stronger person and bounces back immediately. The fact that he tried to kill himself is one of the reasons why parents challenge the book, for they completely overlook the comeback Brian makes.
To begin with, I suggest that the movie, “ A Cry In The Wild “ does a better job of telling the story than the book, “Hatchet “because it gives us more details. Next, I say this because in the movie, “A Cry In The Wild” it shows me that Brain did everything that he could do to survive, like when he built a shelter like in, and it can allow you to see what it was really like. In addition, But in the book, “Hatchet” it only said he built his shelter out of wood, but in the movie it gave you plenty of details on how Brian made his shelter. Also ,when he was trapped in the plane the book only said that he only kicked the windshield and got out, but in the movie, “ A Cry In The Wild” it gave more details of how he got out the plane. The pilot shows Brian the plane 's rudder pedals and the steering controls, telling him that a "plane like this almost flies itself" Brian recovers his can-do attitude after a few days of self-petty and becomes even tougher than he was before. He constructs a bow and arrow, learns to fish, hunts birds and rabbits, and reinforces his shelter against the elements. He 's attacked by a skunk and, later, a moose. And as if eating raw turtle eggs and fighting off wild animals weren 't enough, Brian then
