On 1942, she receives a diary as a present from her parents and starts writing her thoughts and opinions on it. She and seven others hide in a secret annex to avoid the Nazis during the World War II in Amsterdam.
Anne Frank`s Diary The book is called Anne Frank`s Diary. It was written by Anne Frank published in the Netherlands in 1947. The story takes place in Amsterdam Holland in 1942. during the second world war and the Germans have invaded the country.
Another way Zusak presents the theme, books can be a person’s saving grace, is when Liesel was writing her life in a journal Max gave her. She was checking over her journal during a bomb raid in the basement and survived. According to the novel, “She survived because she was sitting in a basement reading through the story of her life, checking for mistakes,”(pg.498)Zusak. This shows that a book can be a person’s saving grace because if Liesel never would have stayed in the basement to check her journal she never would have lived. “The Book Thief” is not just about how Liesel surviving during WWII and how everyone eventually dies.

Miep Gies Miep Gies was a woman born in the early 1900’s whom survived World War I when she was a young girl. During World War I, Miep was sent to the Netherlands and her and others peers suffered from starvation and tuberculosis. When she was older, she worked for Otto Frank before helping him in hiding in 1942. Miep is a very strong character. She survived the chaos of World War II, she helped the Franks and she also survived World War I (annefrank.org).

The Diary of Anne Frank is the story of a girl and her family's hiding. The Holocaust was when Adolf Hitler took over the Jewish population along with gypsies and the disabled. In the play and the movie, I saw two major differences. The first difference I noticed was the relationship between Anne & Petar developing. The second difference was the scene with the Green Police and thief.
