The Hatchet is written by Gary Paulsen and was published in 1987. It won the Newbery Honor of young adult novel. This book is a novel about surviving in the Canadian wilderness. This book was actually very fun for me, because it was based on a survival alone with only an hatchet. While reading the book it helped me learn more about nature and conquering fears. The appeal about this book for me was when I was reading the book it felt like I was Brian, I could feel his feelings reading one word after another.

Character Details: The main character in the story is Brian Robeson, his parents are divorced. He knows about his mom's secret about the man with short blond hair. Brian's mom wants a divorce with Brian's dad as she sees another man, however Brian's dad does not want a divorce. Brian knows that his mom is seeing an another man, but he does not tell her that he knows about it.

Plot Details:

Brian who is only thirteen gets on the plane to meet his dad. Suddenly the pilot has a heart attack and dies while that is happening he had to do something tho the plane, so he tries to drive it but it lands on a lake in the forest. There he has to survive alone in the wilderness with a hatchet. During the summer he discovers to make fire and he finds food, shelter, and deals with wild animals and his fears. He becomes woodsman and crafts a bow, arrows and start to live his life like this. Later, a tornado hits by and makes a way to the plane, he finds a survival pack with an emergency transmitter, food and things. He tries to activate the transmitter but he does not know how to use it. There he is rescued by a passing
