Mockingjay is an adventurous thriller novel that is the third book in a three book series by Suzanne Collins. In Mockingjay, main character Katniss Everdeen finds herself benthe the ground living in District 13 after her district 12 home was destroyed by the Capitol. Along with this, Katniss's love and partner from the hunger games, Peeta Mellark, was captured and brainwashed by President Snow. Katniss decides to take on a role as the face of a rebellion formed by people of the districts to fight against the Capitol for a better way of life. Katniss becomes the mockingjay, originally leading this rebellion by shooting propos but later becomes a soldier in a huge war forged by the Capitol and the rebels that is eventually won by the rebels.While …show more content…

When Peeta gets back to District 13 Katniss automatically runs to him, leaving Gale in the dust. Gale risks his life to retrieve Peeta from the Capitol, but even after that Katniss turns a blind eye to Gale and only shows love and thankfulness towards Peeta. Also, Peeta comes back from the Capitol very unstable. He has been brainwashed to hate everything about Katniss to such an extent that he actually wants to kill her. Although Peeta has these new morals, Katniss sees through them completely. Katniss jumps at any chance she can get to see Peeta, ultimately putting her life in danger for him because she loves him. Furthermore, Katniss gets to see her beloved Peeta when he first arrives in thirteen. At this point Peeta is in a medical room being somewhat treated but because no one knows what he is like, he is not restrained. When Katniss goes to see him, Peeta lashes out strangling Katniss in attempt to kill her. Then, Katniss wakes up in a hospital where she has to recover from this event. She is now afraid of and for Peeta but she is still very compassionate and hopeful for him. She still shows that she loves him and does not yet turn back to Gale even after Peeta tried to kill her. Katniss is part of a squad in the war between the rebels and the Capitol that includes some of the most highly skilled soldiers, her camera crew, and Gale. Their job is to follow behind the other squads and shoot propos while they trench through the streets of unmarked pods. Their squad receives an addition who turns out to be Peeta. Peeta causes a lot of great problems for the squad. First of all, he is not in a functional mental state. As a result of this, he has to stay locked up in handcuffs and can not have any weapons. Also, he can not be trusted by any squad members so he has to be watched by someone all the time. Peeta causes a great distraction and worry in the squad as all of a sudden their focus turns to him. This slows the squad down and does not allow them to do most of what they are supposed to do. In spite of this, Katniss never mentions getting rid of him. She gives him chances. Also, Peeta does not serve any positive purposes in this squad. He is not capable of having a weapon so he can not fight. He is no use to the propos as the rebels do not see him as the face of the rebellion and they care more about Katniss than him. Lastly, he does not contribute any skills to the squad. He does not play a part as a soldier, a camera crew member, nor a mentor to Katniss. After all these downsides to having Peeta on
