When Peeta gets back to District 13 Katniss automatically runs to him, leaving Gale in the dust. Gale risks his life to retrieve Peeta from the Capitol, but even after that Katniss turns a blind eye to Gale and only shows love and thankfulness towards Peeta. Also, Peeta comes back from the Capitol very unstable. He has been brainwashed to hate everything about Katniss to such an extent that he actually wants to kill her. Although Peeta has these new morals, Katniss sees through them completely. Katniss jumps at any chance she can get to see Peeta, ultimately putting her life in danger for him because she loves him. Furthermore, Katniss gets to see her beloved Peeta when he first arrives in thirteen. At this point Peeta is in a medical room being somewhat treated but because no one knows what he is like, he is not restrained. When Katniss goes to see him, Peeta lashes out strangling Katniss in attempt to kill her. Then, Katniss wakes up in a hospital where she has to recover from this event. She is now afraid of and for Peeta but she is still very compassionate and hopeful for him. She still shows that she loves him and does not yet turn back to Gale even after Peeta tried to kill her. There is a point where Katniss has a thought after she hears the mission was a success but before she gets to see Peeta. She …show more content…
Katniss is part of a squad in the war between the rebels and the Capitol that includes some of the most highly skilled soldiers, her camera crew, and Gale. Their job is to follow behind the other squads and shoot propos while they trench through the streets of unmarked pods. Their squad receives an addition who turns out to be Peeta. Peeta causes a lot of great problems for the squad. First of all, he is not in a functional mental state. As a result of this, he has to stay locked up in handcuffs and can not have any weapons. Also, he can not be trusted by any squad members so he has to be watched by someone all the time. Peeta causes a great distraction and worry in the squad as all of a sudden their focus turns to him. This slows the squad down and does not allow them to do most of what they are supposed to do. In spite of this, Katniss never mentions getting rid of him. She gives him chances. Also, Peeta does not serve any positive purposes in this squad. He is not capable of having a weapon so he can not fight. He is no use to the propos as the rebels do not see him as the face of the rebellion and they care more about Katniss than him. Lastly, he does not contribute any skills to the squad. He does not play a part as a soldier, a camera crew member, nor a mentor to Katniss. After all these downsides to having Peeta on
Knowing he could not walk she help carrying him back to safety. In a game like this a tribute has to be aware of their surroundings and to be focused on what is going on. Carrying him shows a lack of security for herself. Katniss was determined to get Peeta feeling better. Instead of leaving him in the cave where he could die and she could continue the game, she went off to get him medicine so he could walk again.
Now in this story it is not the fancy wigs or the sparkles of the Capital that make it that way. It is the Hunger Games. Once a year all twelve districts of Panem have a reaping, where one boy and one girl from each district are chosen (or forced) to play in the hunger games. This year Katniss and Peeta from district 12 were chosen along with many others. During the games the Tributes fight to the death and there can only be one survivor, but while Peeta and Katniss establish a love connection in the arena they refuse to kill each other and are about to swallow some poisonous berries and end it together when the game makers intervene to keep the people in the district's happy and let them both live.
Her whole life, Katniss has put others before herself, and this character trait is put on display because of the threat of Peeta dying("Critical Reception of The Hunger
Although she knew that she had a great chance of dying, Katniss still risked her life. "The idea of actually losing Peeta hit me again and I realized how much I don 't want him to die. And it 's not about the sponsors. And it 's not about what will happen back home. And it 's not just that I don’t want to be alone.
I run to meet him, my arms extended to embrace him. His hands are reaching for me, too, to caress my face, I think. My lips are just forming his name when his fingers lock around my throat.” This shows that now Katniss has a new problem: to get Peeta out of Snow’s ‘spell;’ to snap him out of trying to kill
Peeta is there for Katniss as they both experience the truth about how their society and why in fact they fight in these separate districts that are designed to hold different personalities of certain people. This is another example of how society tries to control people in these dystopian novels. However, this specific relationship is similar to that of Montag and Clarisse because Peeta had such an influence on Katniss and how she made the decisions she did throughout the book series. Katniss once thought about Peeta during the series and realized, "only one person will be damaged beyond repair if
Throughout the book they start to become friends and realize many things they didn’t really know they would learn. In the beginning of the book Peeta tried to help Katniss in many ways. He told people that he was in love with her to help her get sponsors. Also, at the beginning of the games Peeta shook his head to Katniss telling her not to go the the supply area to try to save her from the blood bath.
He was able to paint parts of nature on himself, this allowed him to survive the Hunger Games. Such as the flute player, Peeta should be given a brush, colors and a canvas. another brutal example of how this society is not letting people choose but it is deciding for them is when Cato right before he dies he says to Katniss “I’m dead anyways, it is what I always wanted right? the only thing I know how to do , bring pride to my district”. In his district they have academy and they prepare possible tributes, so they volunteer after this academy
Katniss and Peeta are selected by the lottery, they move to the Capital to prepare for the fight. They arrive in the Capital and they practice a few days before they go to the outdoor arena. They’ll be guided by Haymitch, the only winner of district
She 's the one who embodies, articulates and justifies the battle" (Dargis 2). Indeed this statement makes a major point that Katniss humanizes the violence set out to destroy her, and it is her personality and nature that prove her to be an able body to look up to for hope. Another embodiment of hope she holds is her wise instincts. “Who is continually figuring out how to outwit her oppressor and secure her family’s survival” (Skinner 3). Katniss has always held a keen insight into how the minds of the leaders in the Capital work, which has lead her to develop fierce instincts; another trait exemplified in a hero.
Katniss and Peeta have to overcome many problems throughout not only the hunger games but the entire story. One example of this is when Katniss goes and gets medicine that Peeta heavily needs knowing the fact that she could be in grave danger. They need each other to survive and end up both living due to this. In the end of the games, Peeta and Katniss decide to eat poisonous berries and die together. The game makers stopped them because they needed a winner.
Throughout the book, Katniss often makes it clear to both Peeta and herself that she does not reciprocate Peeta’s feelings, and wants nothing to do with him. There’s also the fact that the Capitol is forcing their relationship, since the moment that Peeta announced to the world that he was in love with Katniss during an interview with Caesar. The two are also told by Haymitch that he “... wants them together at all times. Not one second will two spend out in public without each other, got it?” (Collins 103).
On the other hand, Katniss is suspicious of his behavior, and believes he is just pretending to be nice, but she realizes that he is just being himself. She states in the book, “Peeta Mellark, on the other hand, has obviously been crying and interestingly enough does not seem to be trying to cover it up. I immediately wonder if this will be his strategy in the Games. To appear weak and frightened, to reassure the other tributes that he is no competition at all, and then come out fighting.” (Collins, 2008, p.49)
Normally in a book the guy take cares of the girl but in this story the girl is taking care of the guy. Peeta gets hurt and sick in this story and Katniss seems invulnerable. “If I want to keep peeta alive, I’ve got to give the audience something more to care about” (Collins 268). This is showing you that she is taking care of peeta and normally he does take care of the girl. She changes his band adds and feeds him.
She came here with me.” Action explains Peeta loves Katniss. This also tells us this love can never come true. When they get to the arena they have to be enemies. “Peeta,” I say lightly.
