Her creating a new living tree that she finally likes is similar to her growth as a person. It took a long time, the whole year to get a tree just how she wanted. She even though it took a long time she stood up for herself and did what she wanted with the situation in the janitor's closet with Andy Evans and spoke which is her growth since she hasn't talked. The symbol of the trees represents Melinda's growth as a person. In conclusion, in the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson the use of the symbol trees is very common and important.
This can be supported when the boy was just a kid he and the tree were always happy and they both just appreciated each other’s company. However, as the boy grew up he started to appreciate the tree less and less and eventually just using her and taking anything that he wanted. Although, the tree did it just so they could both be happy, just like when the boy was young. Eventually, the boy got old and came to the tree and he didn’t want to play with anything he just wanted to rest. This made the tree happy, because this is one of the things that she could do to make him happy so she let him sit on her stump and they were both happy.
From page 7. This reference supports my claim because Crane-Man is teaching Tree Ear how to survive in the world as a poor child. He is also trying to guide Tree Ear to make good choices without a education. Another quote that supports that he is experienced is "Work gives a man dignity, stealing takes it away." From page 6.
The theme of “Birdfoot’s Grampa” is that through life, we learn that all life is of value and worthy of saving. We can see this through the man's wisdom, his personality, and his acts. In “Birdfoot’s Grandpa” the grandpa is pictured as old. This can be seen as being offensive and unnecessary to some people, the story may be using this as a segway to picture a greater subject. Most people would consider old people to be wise.
A substantial part of growth is the decisions a person makes throughout their lifetime. In the novel a Separate Peace, the reader can see how Gene, the prominent character, experiences a radical change in the novel. Some decisions like becoming friends with Finny help him comprehend who he truly is. This companionship also gives Gene an understanding of his personality and of a free world with no rules. Decisions do not always have to be good, for example the decision of pushing finny off the tree was cruel, nevertheless it helped Gene grow.
Creon can ascribe his stubbornness to the unwillingness to be wrong; Haimon can ascribe his stubbornness to the power Creon was given resulting in the developing of his ego. (Balanced) His ego impaired his ability to listen to anyone's advice. He explains that his “voice is the one voice giving orders in this city.”(Line 48) Creon fears that his pride will be ruined if he suddenly changes his decision. His son, Haimon, also reiterates the fact that Creon should put his ego aside by saying, “ In flood time time you can see how some trees bend, And because they bend, even their twigs are safe, While stubborn trees are torn up, roots and all.”(Line 80) Haimon’s analogies to trees clarifies that Creon should be more flexible and less stubborn. Creon himself shares his perspective saying, “Oh, it is hard to give in, but it is worse to risk everything for stubborn pride.” ( Line 92) The life of Antigone was obviously not as as important as his pride.
Atticus Finch as a parent is kind of different from most. He treats his children different than other parents may treat their kids. He treats them with honesty and as they are grown adults. He uses good timing to find have an opportunity to teach Scout and Jem good values he wants to pass down to them. Scout says that " 'Do you really think so? '
The tree in the story symbolizes junior in such a way that it seems the tree is him. Rushdie is great at placing little symbols for the reader to catch which really adds to the view of the story. No matter how big or small a symbol is, it will always mean something. Junior and senior can be seen as many symbols throughout the story, such as the struggle between life and death, green and gold. Junior and senior always pass this tree one their walk, but fail to realize the trees growth is a clock for their lives.
Friends can come and go like leaves, but loyal friends are like the branches, they never leave you. In times of hardship like the winter, leaves fall down, but the branches still stick on. This is like the correlation in friendships. "Wonder" is a book about a boy who has Treacher Collins, which makes him look different from other children. Throughout the story, he learns about the world and he makes friends that stay loyal to him even though he looks different.
The young boy, Manolin is kind towards the old man old, because he is 84 years old and it's getting hard for him to do things on his own and he feels sorry for the old man. The positive traits character show in the book is courage. (60-61) When the old man’s hands are cramping up, he says I hate a cramp. It's a tendency of one’s own body. The character that shows the most courage is the old, Santiago this can be seen.
History in the idea of memories, legacies, and factual accounts is the only thing that connect people to past. The past indicates to people what processes and pathways are successful, and it highlights what needs to be changed in the future to make society better. The Wesley’s showed to individuals that perseverance and determination along with a tight-knit family can make a business successful. In addition to this, the Point Washington Lumber Company has also proven that lumber is not the steadiest field of business to go into as the demands of the product fluctuate. In retrospect, individuals can take this example of the past as trying a field of business and watch its growth to see if the outcome is greater than the initial
Summer Reading Essay: The Color of Water James McBride turned out to be a very good man although his outside influences growing up would encourage the opposite. Growing up with more than one father figure in his life and many older brothers and sisters sent his life spiraling out of control but eventually came to a calm and quiet hault. A father is someone who is supposed to teach his son to be a man; not every man has the same beliefs or teaching, so having many different views in and out James’ life was probably hard to balance. The many men that took on the role of his father as he went through life had major effects on him and made him who he is today. James McBride had accumulated a total number of two fathers in his life.
Throughout the school year, Melinda’s tree goes through phases that reflect her emotions at the time. In the beginning of the story, Melinda thinks the project is too easy at first, thinking to herself, “How hard can it be to put a tree on a piece of paper?” (Anderson 32). However as Melinda tries to draw her tree, the more she begins to realize that she can’t. Similar to how she struggles with finding her voice, Melinda also has trouble drawing her tree. The tree acts as a symbol of growth and strength, something that Melinda tries to find in her life after her rape.
I read “Middle school: Mmy Bbrother is a Bbig Ffat Lliar” by James Patterson. The book mainly talks about what the title explains. On how having a brother that continuously lies on you and one who is consantly annoying you in any and everything you do.You would think since he’s older he would act more mature than what he does, but he doesn’t.At times it does show where they aren’t trying to cut each others heads off but them actually getting along, which is barely ever. Reading this story made me feel sad at times but covered up the sadness with laughter soon after (that rhyme). In my opinion, when writing this he intended to entertain by making people laugh and it definitely did.Because in his writing, he uses jokingly and sarcastic
[S/N] could not express his training as he kept asking his dad what will he learn and do. Tobirama answered in a pretty simple way for him to understand. You held in your giggles as you realized that the way Tobirama teaches students will be boring and old-fashion, until you get older and stronger then he will makes things more interesting. Though, [S/N] doesn’t realize that, so to keep still motivated, you had to lie to him. He will figure out
