“The Hunger Games”, by Suzanne Collins, is about twelve, previously thirteen, districts, that are under constant observation, and suppression from the Capital. The Capital controls everything, and everyone in the districts since the rebellion. Annually they host a game to keep everyone under control. The Tracker Jackers are venomous, genetically modified hornets that were created by the Capital in order to fight against the rebellion. They symbolize fear, control, and suppression. The Silent Salute is a hand gesture in which districts hold up the three inner fingers of their hand. This symbolizes respect, gratitude, and is considered to be silently rebelling against the Capital. The outfits that Katniss is seen to wear throughout the novel
Later, Katniss finally arrives at the reaping and mentions that “Family members line up around the perimeter, holding tightly to one another’s hands” (Collins 16-20). These people sound terrified and afraid, eventually provoking similar feelings in the audience. In The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins uses strong words to invoke a feeling of fear and tension in her audience similar to the feelings her characters are
The picture is a still of the movie “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, second part in a saga based on a trilogy of books. This scene appears in the beginning of the film and represents The Reaping, the process that selects the participants of the Quarter Quell. I argue that the scene is a defining moment in the revolution because it is the instant when the discourse changes and the people stand together to fight a repressive system that favors class inequality. The still shows the difference between the people of the Capitol and the people of District Twelve.
The novel “ The Hunger Games “ by Suzanne Collins presents the theme of violence, kakistocracy, inhumanity, & obscenity. She also introduces rebellion & defiance. In a broken society 12 districts are forced to fight one another each year, this is due to past rebellions which caused their society to become a dystopian one. The tributes from district 12 create an uproar and spark a start to a revolution they didn't realise they were creating.
The Hunger Games: Chapter Notes Chapter One: It was the morning of the reaping, Katniss was reflecting on the events of her life. This introduces the characters main family, prim, and her mother. In order to clear her mind, Katniss went hunting in the woods near the edge of District 12. While there, Katniss 's friend Gale showed up to I an escape plan before the reaping can began. Katniss declines the offer and heads to the square for the reaping.
After that, Katniss killed Marvel, the one who threw the spear, with her bow and arrow. Katniss cries, sings to Rue, then gathers flowers and lays them around her body to show the Capitol that they are not just “a piece of their game”. After reading this, I discovered that Katniss really thought of Rue as a sister. I think that it was very daring of Katniss to show an act of defiance to the capitol and show that they are humans and have feelings too. I loved how she stood up for herself and showed the Capitol what she believed in.
There is a rebellion going on that the capitol has no idea about because during the games at the end of the book Katniss shoots an arrow at the force field that surrounds the arena where the tributes are fighting. Another major theme in this book is the theme of survival while keeping your feelings and . Katniss, represents this theme very well because she is going into a dangerous and risky game that the capital uses children to
The major theme in The Hunger game series is the inequity between rich and poor In the books, the author points out that people from the poor district have never known what is orange juice, coffee or chocolate, things people normally know in our world; but for people in district 12, these are luxuries that they cannot afford in their lives (Collins, 2008, p.60). The author used this as an example to mention how poor people live under the Capitol’s control and also provide a reasonable motivation for the following revolution. To show the contrast, the author also mentioned lives in the Capitol in Catching fire. People in the Capitol drink a special liquid to make them vomit so that they can keep eating more food, which shows the extremely
“Hero’s are made by the path they choose, not the power they are graced with.” - Brodi Ashton. Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist of this novel, who has to obey society’s unfair rules. Katniss chooses volunteers for her sister Primrose at the district 12 reaping to participate in a yearly event called The Hunger Games. She is forced to fight against the other tributes chosen from the other districts.
Throughout the Hunger Games we are shown five different characteristics of a dystopian society. Number one government control. Number two environmental destruction. Number three technological control. Number four loss of individuality.
One conflict in this book was character versus nature as all the tributes had to face environmental issues such as temperatures, hunger, thirst, and others. For example, on page 299 it states, “Starving, weak from injuries, trying not to reopen wounds. We’re sitting huddled together wrapped in the sleeping bag, yes, but mostly to keep warm. The most exciting thing either of us does is nap.” This shows how the characters have to conquer their problems and be able to face environmental issues so they can survive and win the Hunger Games.
The beginning of the book they introduce Katniss Everdeen, the strong hunter that keeps her family alive. They live in a poor village where no one has food or money. They all wear rags and live in broken down homes and they sell things in a broken down building, which is like their black market. There are twelve district in the world, all of them combined is called Panam. Due to the uprising against the Capitol, they made The Hunger Games.

When an author writes a book or a novel, they were impacted or inspired to write it. Past and present experiences can impact an author’s writing and inspiration can come from anywhere at any time like watching a show on tv close to midnight. The inspiration for writing a book can come from anywhere like watching a show about people competing for money or watching footages from the war in Iraq. Suzanne Collins developed the Hunger Games series on these current inspirations and also from her relationship between war and media. Her life influences the way she wrote her books, The Hunger Games Trilogy, with a TV game show, footage from the war in Iraq, and from her knowledge of a battlefield from what her father had taught her.
This shows the readers that Katniss really about her mom and sister and she will keep them in her thoughts when she enters the games. The second quote that supports the theme is on page 22 “ With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer I gasp I volunteer as tribute.” This quote helps the readers realize that Katniss is very protective of her sister Prim
