Introduction Border Security and Airport Security is important to the viability and sustainable development of the economy of any nation; in this case Jamaica. Thus every building needs a good status to gain the best image and generate a better income. In this case, the security of the facility itself plays a major role in create the best image of the building. With this, security systems provided for a facility must be safe, the best and assuring, to guarantee the safety of the assets its personnel or staff and customers. For many years a lot of illegal cargo or even persons have slid through the customs procedures being performed at both major airports in Jamaica. A man who resides in East Kingston left the Rae Town Beach on the weekend of …show more content…
Purpose of Study The main purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which biometric systems can be used to improve the airports security as it relates to Customs and Immigration. The researcher identified that the current security system allows for too many breaches and as a result the purposes for the study might include what the current security measures entail and its effectiveness, how will the biometric affect workers, how biometric implementation will cut down illegal cargo coming into the country and what will the implementation of biometrics means for the improvement of overall airport and border security. Significance of the study The researcher is carrying out this research and hopes that the persons in charge of border and airport security will use the information gathered to improve security not only for the airport but for all the citizens within the country. Furthermore biometric system is advance technology and it will place Jamaican airports on the map when it comes to securing both cargo and person. Thus increasing visitor arrivals and revenue generation for the country in a …show more content…
Biometric systems rely on specific data about unique biological traits in order to work effectively. A biometric system will involve running data through algorithms for a particular result, usually related to a positive identification of a user or other individual.” (Technopedia, 2011) Border Security is defined by Department of Homeland Security (2015) as “protecting our borders from the illegal movement of weapons, drugs, contraband, and people, while promoting lawful entry and exit, is essential to homeland security, economic prosperity, and national sovereignty.” Limitations First of all, there is a limited amount of literature to use to do the actual research. The initial cost to implement the biometric system will be expensive for the government. Lastly the instrument used might not capture the full extent of biometrics in improving security at the airport in Jamaica. Delimitations The study will not include in its sample passengers passing through the airport. Training staff to use biometric system will not be examined in this research. In this research government will not be petitioned to install biometric system but to consider its implementation based on several security breaches at the two major ports of
They are gonna do that by keeping track of who enters the U.S and leaves the U.S. The VIST system, which is located in 115 airports and land ports keeps track of who is coming and going from the USA. This program also helps us know how long someone is here and if they're here too long we know they're trying to become an illegal citizen so they come looking for that person and get them out. According to Republicanviews.org We are trying to “ provide these benefits, the Republican Party is pushing for the US VISIT system to be used at all borders, as well as to increase the use of reconnaissance cameras, border patrol agents, and unmanned aerial flights at borders. They also seek to provide border patrol agents with more advanced technology, tools, structures, and sufficient force to properly secure the borders.”
If Mr. Alford had terrorist intentions, he easily could have taken control of the plane with a loaded handgun. While the TSA spent millions of dollars to improve airport security, Blake Alford shows that there are still many blunders that can occur in high-tech airports that serve millions of people each

The United States Border Patrol, USBP, has acted as the country's first line of defense against unauthorized migration throughout history. Border Patrol's primary focus and mission is to prevent as well as detect the entry of any and all weapons of mass destruction, terrorists and illegal aliens into the country while also working to interdict drug smugglers and all other criminals along the border (Haddal, 2010). The Homeland Security Act of 2002 did away with the Immigration and Naturalization Service and instead placed the United States Border Patrol in the Department of Homeland Security. USBP, in the last couple of decades, has begun to receive a drastic increase in funding in response to incidents, which could have been prevented if the terrorists had been stopped at the border (Haddal, 2010). The United States has some of the world’s longest land and sea borders and securing them is both a national security priority and logistical challenge.
The main mission of the ERO is to deal with any undocumented immigrants who pose as a danger to the American public. There are three main areas of focus that ERO does, which are all three equally important to them. First, they enforce the America’s immigration laws following every protocol to ensure they are acting in a fair and effective manner (ice.gov). They identify and apprehend any undocumented immigrant that is considered removable and throw them into detention when it is absolutely necessary to do so. Secondly, they have a list of priorities for the apprehension, arrest, and removal of convicted criminals, and those that are considered a danger to the people of the United States.
Case 1: San Francisco International Airport and Quantum Secures SAFE for Aviation System San Francisco International Airport is expecting a rise of passengers due to an increase of low-cost carriers. They require a new security management system to accommodate the amount of traffic expected. Their current process is inefficient and disjointed, leading to many problems. The upgrade required needs to be justified and approved by management to be funded. 1.
Airports now take full measure against any security risks and have invested a lot of money into the safety of traveling via planes. Immigration after 9/11 has become a bigger thought than it already was. The funding to enforce immigration has increased drastically since this day and hasn’t stopped. One thought is that if the deportation of criminals increases than we are one step closer to fighting terrorism. Pabst
1) What actions prompted the border control offensive and made the issue of illegal immigration a priority? The action that prompted the border offensive was the use of the border as a political stage. Governor Pete Wilson of California used footage given to him from Border Patrol agent of illegal immigrants crossing the border. The Governor campaigned stating that the federal government wasn’t controlling the border but expected the states to provide for the illegals. He used television as his tool to get the message out to everyone.
Imagine you are an administrator for Hackensack High School. In 1-2 paragraphs, explain how you would individually approach an active shooter drill in Hackensack High School? How would you educate your student body and faculty on how to execute the drill? What would be different from the current drill? Use the article “9 Tips for the Most Effective Lockdowns” for assistance.
He claims that the U.S. border control has increased the number of hired agents and improved the strength of border barriers during the past few years. These improvements are critical to illegal immigrants because crossing border becomes much more difficult than before. It is more likely for illegal immigrants to be blocked, detected and arrested. On the other hand, Krikotian writes that the federal government develops several law statements to forbid illegal immigrants. For example, the federal government invents a smart system to scan immigrants’ fingerprints and match them in a public database.
People in the military are fingerprinted, and it is also required for many other occupations and organizations. When it comes time to match a fingerprint with an individual, it is quite easy due to the wide library of fingerprints the FBI maintains. This library contains the fingerprints of “more than 10%” of the U.S. population. For smaller cases, law enforcement are given access to this library directly from a police station ("Forensic Science" [Gale] 18).
Today, practical methods of using fingerprinting are extremely wide. In 1995, the size of the FBI fingerprint card archive contained over 200 million items, and archive size was increasing at the rate of 30,000 to 50,000 new cards per day [2]. Forensic science was the very first and most important area of its application, which still remains. The rapid development of computer technology has made it possible to create such fingerprint scanners that can be installed on laptops, cell phones, flash drives,
The authentication of Biometrics (i.e. the real authentication) which is used for identification and controlling the access which can be applied in the computer science. It is can be used in groups to identify the individuals under the surveillance. Biometric identifiers are used to labels the characteristics which can be measurable, the distinctive, and to describe the individuals. Biometric identifiers are being often categorized as behavioral versus physiological characteristics. Physiological are related to define the characteristics and the structure of the body.
Biometric face recognition technology has received significant attention in the past several years to use human face as a key to security. Both law enforcement and non-law enforcement are its application. Face recognition system comprises of two Categories: verification and identification. Face Verification is Done in 1:1 match ratio. It is utilized to looks at a face pictures against a Template face pictures, whose identity being claimed.
Air Safety” also written back in 2002 by Elisa Ben-Rafael. The article is about the lack of security right after the 9/11 attack, and Elisa felling’s about that nobody has taken this serious. Elisa is saying in her article that the security standards in America compared to her home country, Israel, are very low. But when it comes to frisking, Elisa feels the same as Shashi Tharoor - Humiliating.
