The boston tea party is a huge part of the history of Massachusetts and the History of our country. First of all the Tea Party was one of the first steps in the American revolution. One could make the argument that without the Boston Tea Party we wouldn't have a country today. Secondly, it showed that the people who lived in the colonies were brave enough to stand up to the biggest country in the world. Also shows that the American people are willing to take a stance against any unfair laws. At midnight on December 16, 1773, the seemingly fearless sons of liberty led by Samuel Adams dressed up as Indians and snuck on to the three ships that contained the tea. In just three hours, one hundred colonists threw 45 tons of tea into the water. When the colonists dumped the tea, they sent an blatant message of defiance to England. The sons of liberty also made sure to only touch the tea and not damage any other property because they wanted to reinforce that they were gentlemen and only upset with the unjust taxation. After the tea party a song was written about that night were the people praised the “glorious sons of freedom, brave and bold, That has stood forth -- fair liberty to hold”. The song continued to say that even “though [the sons of liberty] were indians, come from distant shores,Like men [they] acted -- not like savage Moors”(Tea destroyed by Indians 1).This passage shows that the people of Boston were proud of what happened during the Boston Tea Party. They applauded the bravery of The Sons of Liberty to stand up to Britain. Furthermore, The Sons of Liberty knew that in dumping the tea overboard they were going to anger one of the most powerful countries in the world. It showed the British that the Americans were against all of the unfair taxation and were willing to fight for what they believed in. Secondly, it showed how brave and independent the colonists were. Finally the Boston Tea Party showed the colonists that when people work together, their opinions are heard. As you can see,The boston tea party was a key part in starting the American revolution because it shows that the American people were against unfair taxation,were very brave, and it motivated the rest of the colonists to stand up for their rights.
