Many people in Africa are poor, all due to Africa’s economy. The economy of Africa is made up of agriculture, industry, human resources of the continent, and trade. Many countries in Africa do not have a developed economy. Africa is actually a continent rich in resources, but still most African people are poor. Botswana is one of the few countries in Africa that does have an economy that is developing, and also developing successfully. This was not always the case though. Botswana “was one of the poorest and least-developed countries in the world” (Britannica School). Then its economy started growing rapidly since the mid 1960’s (Britannica School). Additionally, the leading crops include beans, corn, sorghum, and sunflowers (Picard). Even though, not much of the land in Botswana is ideal for productive farming. Therefore, Botswana’s major imports are foodstuffs from South Africa and Zimbabwe. Less than one-tenth of agricultural exports make up the gross national product. The reason why these countries stay poor is because of the previously mentioned concept of unequal exchange. The basic definition is when Global South countries export resources(including land and labor) to Global North countries at incredibly low prices. The Global North sells items made from the aforementioned resources at a far higher price. According to science direct “Rich countries and monopolistic corporations leverage their geopolitical and commercial dominance in the world economy to depress or cheapen the prices of resources and labour in the Global South, both at the level of whole national economies as well as within global commodity chains (section 5.2). As a result, for every unit of embodied resources and labour that the South imports from the North they have to export many more units to pay for it, enabling the North to achieve a net appropriation through trade.

According to the text of My world geography book “Africa has 56.9% of citizens with AIDS/HIV” this shows that Africans have no help from anyone or have anyone to help provide clean water or cures/ways to help make it easier to live with a disease. But Africans still can and do survive to this day (not healthy) but still alive. People may think that Africa needs help but other people may think that Africa is a good on it’s own, but their not because they have fought each other over idiotic situations which include power over each

Throughout the ages, many nations have been known to do whatever it takes to sustain a valuable supply of resources. For this reason, however the exploitation of resources by countries using unfair means is an enduring issue for many groups of people. Exploitation of resources is when the government or outside forces take advantage of a nation’s resources. This issue is significant because it causes civil conflict and war, can impact people of nations terribly, and can destroy industry. Problems created by exploitation of resources can be seen in examples from Sierra Leone, the Congo and British India.
Though they are just the same, ordinary people as the other people live in other place on Earth. Moreover, in Africa, there are many countries which are in the condition of extremely chaotic and destitute. They do not have food, even the water that needed could not be
The association of poverty with Africa goes together like apple pie and America. From the advertisements of malnourished, African children to our education, or rather lack of education, about African countries in the American school system, the concept of Africa as an impoverished continent has been engrained into our minds. This rhetoric of Africa has lasted over decades, with a substantial amount of aid being given to African countries to rectify this problem. And yet, sixteen of the world’s poorest countries were identified as being in sub-Saharan Africa as of 2013. This insinuates that foreign countries and organizations that provide aid, need to reevaluate why aid isn’t making a bigger impact at fixing the problem.

Then, there is also the strange overpopulation in sub Saharan Africa. Ever since the empires of Europe took land and ruined the economy in sub Saharan Africa, they have stayed ruined, some have less than a dollar to live on a day and unemployment is high. Africa is beautiful but with all of the garbage and other things getting burned, Africa looks horrible. Asia is the continent with the most hungry people -- two thirds of the world’s total. Southern Asia faces the greatest hunger burden, with about 281 million undernourished people.2 I always thought that Africa was the most undernourished country, but now I know it’s Asia. Smaller countries are more likely to be undernourished, but that doesn’t mean they always are this is because of the few jobs. Since 1990, the world has reduced the number of people who live in extreme poverty by over half.
Urbanization improves access to basic education for all. Expanding education systems in urban areas is easier and costs less than in rural areas. Thus Africa’s rapid urbanization is expected to increase enrolment, especially at primary level. Indeed, the nature of cities appears to provide incentives for investment in education by residents. Returns to education are generally higher in urban than rural areas—and so literacy rates and enrolment should be higher in urban than rural areas.
In 1980 it was considered a developing country, and now it’s HDI is ranked 16th in the world. Ultimately, if a country doesn’t have a decent education system it creates many problems, and education is lacking in many African countries, thus contributes to it’s
