Similar cases to this one have been brought to court throughout the country, but many custody officers are hesitant to make a decision as they do not want to promote that sports are risky and be liable for any injuries that
Basketball It was my senior year, and I was about to play my last game of high school basketball. My adrenaline was rising as I was listening to some rap songs. I was ready to play, but I was upset that this would be my last high school game. I was hyped up and ready for warm ups. We came out of the locker room, and I was the first in line for lay-ups.
The pressure put on kids to perform from coaches, parents, and peers is a lot, and can lead an athlete to put a sports team over their own health. According to Dr. Aaron Karlin, the Director of the Concussion Management Program at Ochsner, “A concussion won’t appear on a CAT scan or MRI, as it is a functional injury to the brain”(Ochsner). Due to the fact that these injuries do not show up on scans, it is completely up to the injured athlete and anyone surrounding them to report any symptoms after a big hit. Although this may sound simple, some athletes ignore symptoms to stay in the game or to return quicker after already being taken out. In a report from the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council it stated this,” There is still a culture among athletes that resists both the self- reporting of concussions and compliance with appropriate concussion management plans” (Hoffman).
and around the world and continues to draw a lot of interest today. A NBA ball court has to be 94 feet and 50 feet wide just like a college basketball court, so there is a little bit in common with college and NBA basketball from high school and college basketball is that in NBA you can’t stay in the paint for no longer than 3 seconds which would be a turnover on your teams allowing the other team to have the ball. The very first NBA game was played on “ November 1, 1946, in Toronto, Canada”, and what would be the start of one of the best sports ever played. Like in college basketball, there is a shot clock but in the NBA the shot clock has to be set at 24 seconds.
I must admit that I was extremely frustrated when my doctor told me the conditions of my back. But after years of self-evaluation and reconsideration, I started to realize that the undesirable result does not necessarily make my commitments worthless or futile. Even though I lost a couple of opportunities to show how hard I had been working, playing basketball did change my life enormously. Basketball served as a driving force and motivation throughout my adolescence. I worked hard in basketball in order to persevere, especially after I started practicing with the district basketball team.
Later, I joined my middle school basketball team. I recall almost fainting a couple of times during basketball practice, but I kept believing that I can improve my health through intense physical activity. At the time, I had a mentality where I refuse to lose to my own body’s weakness. I believed that I could fight against my asthma and win. Yet, I still didn’t see any improvement in my health after a year had passed.
Solving this problem involves not only educating the public, but also eliminating head-first tackles and providing better equipment. Undoubtedly, football is a difficult, treacherous sport but currently no measures are being taken to improve players’ safety. Small things could make a big difference in the NFL. People are getting hurt before our very eyes, and we don’t do a thing about it, we should be appalled our lack of action and let it motivate us to make improvements and needed
Steroids should be illegal in all pro
Finally, when parents text and drive, it has an influence on their kids, which causes them to pick up the bad habit. While not all might agree, texting and driving is definitely a dangerous habit. First of all, people shouldn 't text and drive because the fine is too small.
I think we should just let the players play. If they know it is risky, then they should make them choose if they want to go out there and get hurt. Just cause some players get hurt do not quit the whole sport for everyone! Football has been going on for decades now, do not quit the whole sport now! It is their faults, I mean, if they do not want to get hut then they should not be a part of it.
The severity of concussions are not taken seriously enough due to the fact of cheap equipment being used, and because of the lack of proper diagnosis and unclear recovery process that can be linked to long term affects from concussions. Cheap equipment has been proven to lead and cause concussions and other head injuries. The NFL and Riddell are in a lawsuit right now because of not providing the proper equipment for players. The family of Junior Seau is suing the NFL and Riddell because the death of Junior was linked to a disease caused by multiple concussions and head blows (Shyr). During football season I suffered a concussion due to a cheap helmet that didn’t have enough padding and air in it.
Without a doubt, there has always been a great risk of injury while participating in contact sports. The participants involved in any contact sporting event are always susceptible to being injured. These participants are completely aware of the everyday risk, but the energy that these sports bring, keep them going regardless. Over the years, there have been countless numbers of injuries due to the nature of these sports, but still millions of people young to old gain interest everyday. While people young to old are gaining interest everyday to contact sports many parents of young children are being faced with the issue either to allow their children to participate in often dangerous sports.
Every person in the world loves football! Football has the highest rates of catastrophic head injuries (16).The long term health effects of high impact sport injures can be super dangerous. “Medical researchers at Boston University recently confirmed that 88 of 92 former NFL players donated their brains for research…”(15). “... NFL players who donate their brains for research suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy( C.T.E.), a brain disease induced by repetitive head trauma and linked to depression,aggression,impulse-control problems, memory loss, and dementia”(15).
It’s a matter of life or death, but isn’t it just a game? Over the past few years, a highly debated and extremely hot topic has arisen. More research has been developed and has come to the forefront regarding the harmful long term effects of concussions due to some aggressive sports. Concussions are usually caused by a violent blow to the head. Symptoms from this common brain injury include dizziness, nausea, and blurred or double vision (Powell).
According to article one, more than 5% of high school students that are athletes while participating collision sports each year have been concussed. High school athletes are more likely to get a concussion than older students but it will take a while to recover. It's likely you will get a concussions he second time if you already had one before. I recommend you sitting out longer if you have a concussion or a brain injury in sports.
