My Life: The end and the start of a new chapter What motivates you in life, were you one to over acheive goals or were you one to settle on goals. How does your peers effect your motivation on your goals in life. In this essay I will be talking about “Brainology” by Carol S Dweck, and how i compare my life experience to the article.
For me, responsibility started at a young age. I had started working at the age of sixteen for an elderly couple, doing everything they weren't able to do. I started enjoying work more than going to school. That was where I messed up and set myself up. I wasn't one to enjoy school, sitting in class listening to the teacher lecture and take notes. That wasn't what I wanted to do, so I had this mindset where I would do what I could and hope I get a passing grade. A fixed mindset is one that thinks they can only do so much and won't challenge them self to anything difficult. (Dweck 1) They believe that working hard meant you didn't have the ability and it would just be easily handed to you. They feel dumb, won't study, and have a high

High school I started at the bottom, not liking school, but because of my experience of life and work I find school more easy and I push myself to like school. Now, I'm at the top of the roller coaster where I like school and want to learn. I compare my educational goals to my work habits. I know I can work really hard, if I can take that same effort and put it into my education. I know I can gain a lot and give college my very best. I feel the need to better my education because I lost my car, lost my job, and lost my apartment, but one thing I won't lose is my education. So, if I better my education I can get farther than I am now. My goals are to finish college for a better opportunity for a career. I want to become an aviation technician and I believe that with a growth mindset I will be able to achieve my educational and career
In the quote, “Why waste time proving over and over how great you are, when you could be getting better? Why hide deficiencies instead of overcoming them” (Dweck 7)? Dweck insists that the reader thinks about this question thoughtfully. What this question is saying is, while having a “fixed mindset”, people waste their time trying to prove their greatness. While opposingly, having a “growth mindset” people choose to spend their time trying to improve.
A person's thoughts determines a person's failures or success because if you think negative evidently become negative. This informational essay will be about a fixed and growth mindset. How a person with a positive mindset works harder at achieving their goals and How setting goals can help success. Goal setting is probably one of the most important things in life. You probably have wanted something but you did not have enough money.
During my high school career, I see the step that I have taken has gotten me closer to my dreams and to my goals for the future by taking every chance I can get to maintain my GPA and continuously get better grades. Also, I try to take the some advanced classes at Lincoln Land Community college and high school such as: AP European History, Sociology and Biology 101 which are a college course. In all my
Imagine going to school and really succeeding; you understand everything, you’re getting good grades and all the praise you can dream of from your parents and teachers. But then you move up and things get harder, you don’t understand everything, your grades are dropping and you are scared that you will no longer get that praise. You have two options, you can either take on the challenge and get back to where you used to be, or you can sit down when you feel threated by the hard work. In “Brainology” by author Carol S. Dweck, we are shown research concerning those two options or “mindsets” and how we can change them.
Educational Self-Analysis As students the people who we surround ourselves with have a profound effect with our motivational level. Our surroundings can emotionally impact our life for the better or worse. By reading the article “Brainology” by Carol Dweck has also showed me the mindset I have and reflect on the way I view education. like most Parents, my Parents want to see me succeed in school since they did not have the chance to do so themselves.
By the time I graduate high school, I will already have my college associate degree that I will have earned through my hard work and dedication. Even though I went through a lot at such a young age, it has shaped me in every possible way. I was exposed to a whole different language and culture, but I was able to succeed through my strong desire of success and dedication. I am thankful for every challenge that I had to go through because if it was not for them, I would not be the person I am
My journey consisted of many good and bad times, and throughout the years I discovered my strengths and weaknesses. I made new friends, took on different tests, accomplished many things. My first year was my most difficult, being new to the school, but as the years went by, school became a more fun experience for me. Knowing that the 4 years of high school was a journey for me, I was able to brace myself for the difficult times to come and the rewards I was going to receive. At the end of the journey, I had gained a lot from these 4 years, but it also prepared me for my next journey, my journey through university.
Education is a goal of mine in which I can remember in grade school. I have always wanted to be the best that I can, and strived for the best. My social location is a being factor, because what I needed from high school had to be learned in college. My social location of where I am from was not educating me on all of the credentials needed for college, and so I had applied myself more. I do have a part-time job in which aids in financially supporting my personal needs, because my tuition is being paid in full as long as I maintain my grade point average.
It is easy to think college is not worth the cost to become better, but getting educated makes people better, and happier in the future and sometimes even in better health (Leonhardt 25 ). Becoming a better and happier person is good for everyone. Even former President Obama says “‘Education helps us be better people. It helps us be better citizens. You came to college to learn about the world and to engage with new ideas and to discover the things you 're passionate about -- and maybe have a little fun’”
Meaning that they think that they cannot become good at something they are currently bad at. If someone with a fixed mindset comes across an assignment and they either fail or it is just difficult, then they will quit. They quit instead of being inventive or trying a new method. This type of mindset can be very damaging to a person, because it does not allow for growth. Without growth or development people would never have made the type of incredible discovery’s that we have made to this date.
The first mindset is the fixed mindset which is when one believes that “your qualities are carved in stone” or in other words people will believe that their intelligence and personality are fixed traits. The second mindset is the growth mindset which is when “everyone can change and grow through applications and experience.” basically, they can improve with some motivation or education and they push themselves to become better. Dweck towards the end of the article gives a scenario between 2 types of people with one having a fixed mindset and the other having a growth mind set who are getting a disappointing grade. The people with the fixed mindset would label themselves and complain, as for the other people with growth mindset would look to improve and work harder the next time around.
High school has impacted my life in so many ways. High School taught me so many things, from personal relationships to creating a relationship with my education. As a freshman, I made a huge amount of mistakes and I regret doing foolish things, but I’ve realized, I was only maturing into the young adult I am today. Freshman year, I was out of focus and I was only trying to find myself. I would also prioritize other things and ignore my parent’s advice, where they would tell me to focus in school and give it my full attention.
Shockingly, the main cause of their mental illnesses is because of school, including grades. Students who attend school more often actually get high-average grades, in contrast to the ones who are always absent (Horton). In addition, depression and anxiety heavily affect their performance in school. “Extreme anxiety, severe clinical depression, obsessive compulsive order attention deficit disorder… are illnesses that are related to memory loss are examples of such dysfunctions that may lead to procrastination,” says Brandon Gaille, a psychology researcher. Again, procrastination is one reason why students fail to do work.
As I ponder on the topic of responsibility, and how I am to incorporate it into the school setting, I think about my childhood and how my mother has distributed responsibility. As a young child, I was given responsibility over small aspects of my life
Kindergarten to 8th grade I attended a private school called Holy Family Catholic School. The school was very small along with classes, teachers extremely strict and hallways always quiet, the totally opposite from Dr. Henry A. Wise. My first day of high school I was very nervous I was not used to big classes, endless amount of students in the halls and the loud ruckus. This was an educational challenge for me because it was a totally different learning environment for me that i had to get used to quickly. My studying habits also challenged me through high school because test and quizzes were given out frequently and if you didn't know how to study you probably wouldn’t get a good grade.
