Throughout this past week, thanks to Alabama Action, I have discovered the true meaning of a “servant’s heart” and discovered that when like-minded people get together, we can make a huge impact on the community. Servitude is something that is incredibly close to my heart and this week was the perfect introduction to all that the UA Honors College has to offer to help find ways to leave my mark. Coming into this week, we were just a large group of kids from every corner of the country – joined only by our desire to serve and our love for the University of Alabama. But, in just a few short days, we became a community of thinkers, leaders, and dreamers who formed bonds that will last throughout these next few years and beyond. Because I am not from Alabama, I knew that this program was going to be an excellent way to get involved and meet people in a smaller setting before classes start – but I never expected the impact that the people I met this week would have had on me.
Mr. Curry, It was an absolute pleasure meeting with you yesterday to discuss admission into the Kinkaid School for the next school year. It was great to hear a little bit more about Kinkaid 's focus, learn about the school’s rich legacy, and it’s mission to educate students holistically. Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to discuss with me how my academic strengths, educational pursuits, and commitment to leadership and service can be valuable assets when paired with the Kinkaid School. I know that The Kinkaid experience can never be compared or duplicated, so once again, thanks for allowing me to be apart of your school day. I hope to hear from you soon!
Needless to say, I am not the typical age of a college student. However, I had always told myself that I would someday re enroll, earn a degree, and graduate so that I could be a prime example for my four children as to what never giving up looks like. I believe this college would enable me to earn a degree without taking on a heavy financial burden. In addition, I appreciate the flexible structure of programs which would fit into my current lifestyle as a busy mom. And, I definitely love the maturer yet diverse environment the school has to offer.
In his article titled “I Am a Community College Student,” Terry O’Banion tells his own educational story and explains how he feels he is a community college student because of the great opportunities a community college can give students. They are affordable, close to home and Community oriented. Like Terry O’Banion I too am a community college student because without this opportunity, I would not be able to receive a college education. Community college is affordable it’s giving me the opportunity to attend college without stressing over the cost. I plan to become a lawyer and the length of time it take to do so is 7 years of college.
From going to this program, I realized why I wanted to Claflin University because there is a plethora of talent and culture that engulfs the University. Lastly, the alumni, board, authority figures and students are all invited to attend to celebrate the years and history Claflin has built and continues to build with the students that keep attending the University. From attending the 147th Founders Day Convocation, people described it as boring and mundane to attend. However, as the program progressed, it is obvious that the program is far from being mundane. The first part of the
I am very grateful for all of my past opportunities and experiences I had within the fields of engineering and technology. If I am fortunate enough to get accepted into this program, I would leverage these experiences and my passion to strengthen my engineering skill-set and deepen my understanding of STEM. Every day my engineering and technology interests continue to grow, whether it’s from a TV commercial from General Electric or a lesson from my Computer Aided Design (CAD) class. It is for these reasons that I believe I would be a great participant for the Engineering and Technology Governor’s
The location of the campus is one thing I consider when I choose one of this college as my top choice because it is convenient school where I am able to go to my parent’s house because I want to make sure that I can come to my family once a week. Even though living on campus is a requirement for me, it is an hour and a half drive from my mother house. This experience will help me learn in dependency and learning the life without my parent. Also they have a nursing major that will prepare me for my profession which is to go back to Ethiopia and give back to my community. I place so much value in education and at one of this University I want to earn my Bachelor’s degree in
Technical writing skills will be a great advantage for my summer REU at the University of Connecticut and when writing my honors thesis. The technical writing skills will also be used in industry, or in graduate school if I choose to pursue a Ph.D. A twenty-page lab report no longer looks so daunting after Burrows and Wen’s class. I feel that my honors thesis can be more easily and professionally composed with the knowledge I gained from this course. Therefore this assignment has achieved the course goals of releasing better engineers into the real world after
During the last year and a half at ECC I have been able to start fulfilling my education goals by getting a good education and find out what I want to go to college for. The college has helped me in many ways not only with my education. One example of this is I have been able to work the whole time that I have been attending classes. This allowed me to save enough money that now when I transfer to NIU in January with my associates degree, I will be able to pay for it in full without taking out student loans. This was one of my fears be for going into college was that I was going to be in debt after.
I have always wanted to have a better future because I grew up in a low income family. My plan is to attend a four year university full time at University of Washington Bothell and major in computer science field because I am passionate about working with technology, and I want to understand how we can continue to draw knowledge from it. In addition, I plan to attend graduate school while working in the computer science field after I finished with my undergraduate school. I want to be able to give back to the society for all the resources it provided me to reach this point in my education and continue working toward fulfilling my life goals. The Intro to Computer Science class at Roosevelt is helping me understand what it takes to be a computer science major student.
UW-Eau Claire is an important school to me because of your great educational programs. Through my life I have switched the idea of what I wanted to do plenty of times. However, one idea always remained. I always wanted to be a teacher, and work with kids and be able to shape and work with the next generation of students. This past fall semester I have been taking a college course at UWGB through Bay Port.
As a community college student (soon to be graduate), I feel that I have gained a new perspective on what personal growth means. Like any student with a passion for a greater future, I believe in taking every experience and opportunity from community college in order to prepare me for the next level in my education. Throughout my two years of receiving hard earned grades and becoming involved in community service projects (through Phi Theta Kappa) I realized the importance of community building and setting goals. I am proud to be the Co-President of Phi Theta Kappa and to have achieved a 3.8 GPA for my last semester. My 3.8 GPA lead me to a well-deserved position on the Deans’ List, and I am positive that Rutgers University will provide me the tools that will lead me to success.
With me being interested in the arts ever since a young age, I still do want to follow my passion and become some sort of artist for my career. I am often not waived by the options of others in regards to my career path, but when it comes to my family, they often do have a slight say in what I would like to enter. Since my dad has always wanted to run a family construction business, I feel the need to be involved in some sort of major relating to that so, I decided to most likely declare Interior Design for the next semester as my major since it is a very fascinating field for me with the combination of human interaction
