QB1 by Mike Lupica is about a young high school football player trying to be the best player he can be. The main character, Jake Cullen, tries to work his way up to the starting quarterback spot on his team. By carrying on his well-known family's legacy throughout his football career, Jake learns that he needs to make his own destiny.
In the beginning of the book, Jake's older brother, Wyatt, is winning a state championship with his high school football team, the Granger Cowboys. Wyatt would then go on to play football for the University of Texas, putting pressure on his younger brother, Jake, to carry on the family football legacy.
