“The Most Dangerous Game” I read the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, by Richard Connell. It is about a man named Rainsford who was on a boat and fell off. He swam to a nearby island and landed on the shore. He went exploring and discovered a mansion where a Cossack named Zaroff lived. There were hunters and huntees in the story. In the story, Zaroff says: “I have but one passion in my life... and it is the hunt”(Connell 222) This shows how much Zaroff likes being hunter. In the beginning, Rainsford was a hunter, but that changes when he gets to the island. Zaroff is a hunter who hunts people for fun. Rainsford is a hunter who hunts for animals for sport. Rainsford tells Zaroff: ”What you speak of is murder”(Connell 255) This shows
Rainsford is a witty and caring character. The passion Rainsford has, devotes his entire life to hunting, but Zaroff obsession is much more extreme, Zaroff was
Zaroff reveals that he intends to hunt Rainsford, since he finds hunting
Zarroff likes to hunt so much he stops hunting animals and started hunting for people. Zarroff prefers to hunt people rather than animals, because he believes that animals lack reasoning, making the hunt easy for him, and he like a challenge. People provide that challenge he so desires, because humans can reason. Sanger Rainsford and his friend Whitney were traveling to Rio de Janeiro to hunt a jaguar. Whitney decides to head in for some rest, while Rainsford decides to go on the deck for a smoke.
Once Rainsford was on the island he met a man named Zaroff, a general who loved hunting but had become bored hunting animals so started hunting humans instead. Since the island was secluded, Zaroff was able to hunt people that were shipwrecked without getting caught. Eventually Zaroff decided to hunt Rainsford, who put up a good fight against his captor. Rainsford then found out how the animals felt when he had been hunting them and began to feel sympathy for them. His being hunted like an animal being hunted led him to figure out the value of life.
Everyone has to overcome adversity in their life. In Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character, Rainsford, fell of his boat at night time On the Island, Rainsford finds a home where General Zaroff lives. The problem is that the only way he can leave the island is if he survives a “game”. Where General Zaroff is hunting him. So Rainsford has to survive for three days.
In the beginning of the story Rainsford is talking to Whitney on the yacht about hunting. “You’re a big-game hunter, not a philosopher… who cares.(215) This shows arrogance by showing Rainsford brag about how being a hunter is the top of the “Food chain”. When Rainsford arrives to the castle,Zaroff brags about being a skilled hunter. ”No
Also, General Zaroff is an extreme hunter and doesn’t find pleasure in hunting regular animals. Zaroff says the most dangerous game is humans because they have the ability to reason. Rainsford is going to be hunted and is given a certain amount of time to survive. Moreover, while Rainsford is being hunted Zaroff
“I am strong, I hunt the scum of the earth”(17). He only kills them because he wants to hunt something that can reason, something that can change its mind when faced with a life or death situation. “But they are men,” said Rainsford hotly. “Precisely,” said the general”(17). Zaroff is an apex hunter, and he demands the ultimate prey.
However, it does not change for the better. In the middle of the story when he finds out Zaroff hunts fellow human beings, to Zaroff's surprise, Rainsford’s thought and reaction is utter shock and disbelief. “‘But you can’t mean-’ gasped Rainsford. ‘And why not?’”(10). Zaroff knowing Rainsford was a great hunter he hoped that Rainsford would accompany him on a hunt; however, Rainsford accuses him of being a cold-blooded killer.
Initially, Rainsford feels that animals being hunted do not understand or feel the terror that a hunter puts upon the animal. He thinks he will always be a hunter and does not care if the animals have an understanding of being hunted. Then when he meets Zaroff, the tables are turned and now Rainsford is being hunted. Lastly, Rainsford has the opportunity to murder Zaroff quickly, but he chooses to make it a fight. Rainsford over the course of three days has completely flipped his opinion on those that are hunted and those that
“The Most Dangerous Game” Essay In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell A man named Rainsford hears a gunshot and falls off a boat on to which he was traveling upon. Rainsford swims to this island to which he heard the gunshots, once on land he walks around and finds an unusual sight A mansion. When inside the mansion he comes across a man Named General Zaroff whos is a fan of his. Zaroff he hunts humans.
When placed in this situation, Rainsford has transformed from being the hunter to becoming the huntee, and is now in the position of all the animals he has carelessly killed before. Towards the end of the story, while Rainsford is being hunted by Zaroff and his pack of dogs, the narrator describes how Rainsford feels by saying that: “Rainsford now knew how an animal at bay feels” (22). The sensation of extreme fear and worry had finally gotten to him, and he can relate to how the animals he hunt may
Therefore, Rainsford won’t ever hunt again because he is traumatized by his experiences on the island. With all his experiences on the island Rainsford became traumatized. For example when Zaroff tells Rainsford about the type of hunting he does, which he hunts actual men. “Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder” (Connell 23).
I believe that the title of the story “The Most Dangerous Game“ written by Richard Connell is linked to us as human beings, and that the title is saying that humans are the most dangerous game. For example in The Most Dangerous Game we learn that on the night Rainsford meets general Zaroff we get a lot of information about Zaroff 's ideal game to hunt. "I wanted the ideal animal to hunt," explained the general. "So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry? ' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason."
"The Most Dangerous Game" statement of The world is made up of two classes -- "the hunters and the huntees" is a great statement that makes sense. The Most Dangerous Game is about a man named Zaroff who lives on an island by himself. The people that come to the island get trained to get ready for the game. The game involves people going through the jungle, hiding from Zaroff as he hunts them. Both the hunters and the huntees have a different view on the conflict.
