Bronchiectasis (broncos, airways; ectasia, dilatation) is a morphologic term used to describe abnormal, irreversibly dilated and thick-walled bronchi(1). Thus bronchiectasis is present when one or more bronchi are abnormally and permanently dilated. The condition was clearly described by Laënnec in 1819 after the post-mortem examination of the lungs of an infant who died following whooping cough , and a popular textbook of the late nineteenth century stated correctly that bronchiectasis was ‘not a separate disease but a result of various affections of the lungs and bronchi’(2) Bronchiectasis is primarily a disease of the bronchi and bronchioles involving a vicious circle of trans-mural infection and inflammation with mediator release(3). Illness is related to retained inflammatory secretions and microbes that cause obstruction and damage of the airway and recurrent infection. Although there are no studies of patients …show more content…
However, there is scant research interest and hence the true prevalence is un-known. Idiopathic disease still seems to be the commonest cause of bronchiec-tasis, as in the West, but there is a much higher rate of post-TB bronchiectasis in some Asian countries. Preliminary data from the Indian bronchiectasis registry (EMBARC India; unpublished data) also shows that idiopathic disease is the most common cause, even though the incidence of post-TB bronchiectasis is much higher in India.(10) Causes of bronchiectasis include
Post infective causes
• Severe pneumonia
• Whooping cough(11)
• Measles
• Tuberculosis(12)
• Fungal
Bronchioles constrict from the increased pressure in the lungs from exhalation. Inhalation is easier because it relieves the pressure.
Vaping is purportedly one of the best alternatives to cigarette smoking. A good number of former cigarette smokers have made the switch, flocking to shops like MistHub to try out various kits. But, not a lot of vapers have it easy on the first try. As soon as they start puffing on their new gizmos, they cough. It’s quite unfortunate that several people choose to leave vaping altogether just because of that incident.
Asthma is the swelling that causes you to wheeze making you feel as you can’t breathe it can be treated by epinephrine. Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by bacteria and sometimes it can be treated without treatment. Bronchitis is an infection in the mucus membrane, wheezing and chest pains are some symptoms and it can be treated by prescribing brunch dilator or antibiotics. Sinusitis pressure in the sinuses also nasal discharge treatments are antibiotics and many others. Tonsillitis symptoms include fever, hard for you to swallow and sore throats.
Hyaline membranes help to the development of fibrosis and atelectasis (collapse) essential to decrease in gas exchange capability and lung dysfunction. These changes cause the lungs to become stiff, patient work hard to inspire. Hypoxemia and the stimulation of juxtacapillary receptors in the stiff lung parenchyma leading to increase respiratory rate and decrease in tidal volume. Breathing irregular increase carbon dioxide removal,

Fear can cause some patients to feel “ treated as mere "experimental model(s)" for the studies, while others refuse to take part because of historical evidences of clinical trial fraud and misconducts known to them” (Nijhawan 134). Preconceived patient perceptions lead patients to “believe that, trials will put extra burden on them. They assume that the conventional treatment is best and they are afraid of the unknown side-effects of new treatment. Convincing and receiving an informed consent from such patient is most difficult. In some case disclosing too much information of the potential side-effects may unnecessarily scare the patient away from a potentially life-saving or life-enhancing surgery or procedure”(Nijhawan 134).
Discovered in 1989, Cystic Fibrosis is the most common, fatal genetic disease in the United States. Statistics show that 30,000 people in the US have been named with this disease. (Genome) Cystic Fibrosis is a disease caused when the CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Regulator) is defective and the cells do not release the right amount of chloride. This causes for the body to produce thick, sticky mucus that clogs up the lungs, leads to infection, blocks the pancreas, which stops the digestive enzymes from reaching the intestine. Symptoms require; salty tasting skin, wheezing, shortness of breath, persistent coughing, poor growth or weight gain, frequent/bulky stool, and male infertility.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is often called COPD for short. COPD is a lung disease that affects airflow, causing the individual to not be able to breath normally. Smoking plays a big part in India’s culture. COPD is found in large amounts of people who smoke, and smoking is an individual’s behavior that can be changed by that person on their own will. In India people smoke many different styles of tobacco on a regular basis, Hookah is one form of smoking seen in most Indian Cultures.
Thousands of clinical and experimental research conducted in the area. The therapy gained recognition by the British Medical Association and the American Medical Association in the 1950 's. It is recognised by the
Because they also encourage mucous secretions, macrophage activity on pneumococci is decreased while bacterial adhesion to the epithelium is increased. Pneumonia is a condition that aggravates the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. Cyanosis occurs as a result of the decrease in gas exchange through the inflamed alveolar membrane and subsequent decline in hemoglobin saturation. One of the most common complications of the flu is a bacterial infection.
Nursing assistants need to know many things when taking care of someone with COPD. Nursing assistants legally need to know about advanced directives, and living wills. They need to know these things because COPD is chronic and the person under our care may die from the disease. Nursing assistants need to know what the persons wishes are if they do pass.
From these questions that were given out by Dr. Frander, many students should have a great understanding what to expect to the mid-term exam. Dr. Frander really encouraged us to study because most of these questions are difficult. For instance, she gave us an example in a patient who has COPD/ emphysema. What we have concluded from this question what they are looking for the emphysema patients don’t have a problem of taking air in rather they have a problem of taking the air out. The main problem of the emphysema, they have a lot of mucus, and the alveoli which where the gas exchange takes is impaired.
However, there is limited evidence supporting the effectiveness
In their paper, they take stance on obtaining results that can be interpreted more rapidly and more efficiently; including the use of a placebo controlled study, even if a known treatment exists. By using a placebo controlled study, there will be less need for more subjects, which would
