Brotherly love is strong and unconditional, even if you are oblivious of it, as Ponyboy Curtis learns in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Ponyboy and his brother Darry have an interesting relationship because of the situation they are in with Darry having to play the role of the parent, and three ways that Ponyboy describes his relationship with his brother in The Outsiders is kill, firm, and care. Ponyboy feels that Darry puts a lot of pressure on him to not get into trouble in school or on the streets. In this novel, Ponyboy mentions, “Darry would kill me if I got into trouble with the police.” (1). Of course, Ponyboy is only exaggerating when he thinks this, but Darry is very strict and Pony knows he would punish him if he did mess up and
The Outsiders CEC In the novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy faces multiple deaths changing his life which affects Ponyboy to mentally grow up fast. While Ponyboy dreams about the country, Ponyboy realizes that “Darry would lose that cold, hard look and be like he used to be...before Mom and Dad were killed” (48). Without the death of Ponyboy’s parents, Darry would still be just a brother to Ponyboy. These dramatic changes resulted in Ponyboy to “get hard” or grow up without a brother or true parents to lean on.
He didn’t realise how much he cared for them and how hard Darry worked to live together as a family because the brothers knew they would get separated into boys' homes. Ponyboy loved Sodapop, he was his favourite brother and person, to him, Sodapop was his only family left and was affectionate. It wasn’t until Ponyboy was in the hospital waiting room when he saw Darrel crying because of him. “Darry did care about me, maybe as much as he cared about Soda, and because he cared he was trying too hard to make something of me.” Even if they had argued almost everyday, Darry was only looking out for his younger brother because no matter how much they fight, they will always be family.
What would you do if the one thing, that made a group stay together left? The group would be able to stay together after losing Johnny because, even though they lost a loved one, they would still do anything for one another like backing each other up without a second thought. While reading The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the death of Johnny formed a question about whether or not the gang would be able to stay together. The death of Johnny made me believe that the bond of the gang was stronger then before, with them even choosing to back up each other, even if it means danger to themselves or helping one another when in need of some assistance, and finally realizing that they were all they had left for family and friends. The gang had been stronger together
Response and Analysis: Ponyboy is normally quiet, reserved, and non-violent, but after getting emotionally slapped in the face by Cherry for being a greaser and then physically slapped to the ground by Darry, Ponyboy had enough. Initially, I though that Ponyboy was not using his head on this one, but in the end, I think he really was. He is making a statement to Darry on how he feels he is being treated. By running away, he is not only breaking curfew rules, he is showing Darry that he deserves to be
This shows that Darry yells at Ponyboy to teach him the dangers because he has to since their parents died but Dally is the way he is because of
“We’re all we’ve got left. We ought to be able to stick together against everything. If we don’t have eachother, we don’t have anything.” The quote is significant by connecting to an Essential question because Ponyboy and Darry’s relationship has been strained since their partners died and Darry became responsible for his little
divide each other. For example S.E. Hinton in her book THE GREASERS. That ‘’Greasers’’ and ‘’Soc’’ are separated because the soc are cooler than the greasers. Separation is going on in society, in the Nove sometimes people can’t have their freedom of speecHave you ever thought why everybody is separated?
Loyalty: The Key To Survival Have you ever felt vulnerable or threatened while surrounded by a group of strangers? What did you want at that time? Backup and friends to protect you, right? The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton perfectly represents this struggle and how friends help to resolve it. The novel is realistic fiction that is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma during 1965.
Furthermore, In the book it states “Please be careful because couldn’t stand it if anything happened to you!” This shows that Darry only wants the best for Ponyboy. This also shows he do anything for him. This is just another one of the reasons that prove that Darry is a good guardian for Ponyboy. Some might say that Darry is a bad guardian.
Family is an important component in everyone’s life. S.E Hinton this The Outsiders there is contradiction between the gang’s biological family and their “family”. Johnny is a member of the gang that is not wanted and cared for by his parents but musters to find a strong bond with the gang. The Outsiders, a realistic fiction book by S.E Hinton, shows the importance that family is the one that cares about you even though many people say that your biological family can understand you more.
Darry has an extremely serious personality and loves Ponyboy with tough love. All three show love in different ways, but they still do love. Love is shown throughout all of the book The Outsiders in various ways, even though there is lots of violence. Dally and Johnny had a very close bond. They were very close all the time and really admired each other.
Since he is not allowed to stay out later than 12 am his brothers were very worried. Darry was very mad so he slapped Ponyboy. Pony was very shocked and ran away. He asked Johnny to run away with him but soon realized that was not logical. They decided to go to the park so Pony could cool down before going home.
When you think of family you might think of adults and their children, or kids who lost their parents but are still related to each other. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton tells otherwise. It shows that even if you are not related, you can still be family; you can still have love and affection for each other. In the book, there is a contradiction between the gang’s biological family and their “family”. There is connection shown between the greasers from the Socs in the blue Mustang to Johnny dying in the hospital not wanting to see his mother.
Parents/Guardians are meant to take good care of their child or siblings. It’s their responsibility to feed them and give them shelter. Without parents, these children or siblings have no place to go other than the streets and cause trouble and join gangs. For example, in the book the Outsiders written by S.E Hinton the characters Johnny, Dally and Bob died because their parents didn’t care about them or matter to them. Their parents were responsible for their deaths.
Sacrifice, care, bravery, courage, etc; but only one of the characters in the novel exhibits all of the above qualities and is a true hero. Some of the heroic characteristics that were present were sacrifice and caring. Darry exhibits sacrifice and care when he gives up a college scholarship in order to take care of his brothers. Ponyboy vouches for his brother’s character stating that Darry “had been a real popular guy in school; he was captain of the football team and he had been voted Boy of the year”, but goes on to lament that at this point in the story he “didn’t have time between jobs to even think about college”(16).
