Bruce McLaren believed in thoroughly exploiting one's ability, stating that "life is measured in achievement". Automotive genius Bruce McLaren hailed from Auckland, New Zealand. Bruce and his father had reconstructed a 1929 Austin which Bruce raced in competition when he was just fifteen, setting the fastest time in the 750cc class. Seven years on, at 22, he was the youngest-ever Grand Prix winner. For ten years, Bruce McLaren figured among the best racing-drivers in the world. His vision and ability went beyond just racing. He has been described as an automotive genius, lending his skills to design, testing, invention and engineering. The team dominated the Canadian-American Challenge Cup from 1967 to 1971, and won the Indianapolis 500 three times. In 1974-1976, McLaren ruled in Formula One, winning the constructors' championship and drivers' championships with Hunt and Fittipaldi. McLaren Automotive In 1989, McLaren Cars (later McLaren Automotive) was established to create high-performing road-cars based on Formula One technology. The first car was a sports model that delivered lightning acceleration (0 to 60 mph in three seconds); it was called McLaren F1.
