From back in time to now, there have been a lot of movies made regarding police brutality that we are unaware of. A movie that was recently brought to my attention regarding this issue is Fruitvale Station. This movie is about 22 year old Oscar Grant, who was killed in a subway station in Oakland, California, in the early hours of January 1, 2009. Michael B. Jordan plays Oscar Grant who is trying extremely hard to live a clean life and support his young daughter and his girlfriend. In the film, it shows him trying to get his job back at the grocery store he previously worked at. He thinks about going back to his old habit of selling weed, but decides to not even go down that road. Later on, Grant attend his mother's birthday party, and talks …show more content…

During their conversation, a former inmate that Grant use to go to jail with noticed him and a fight breaks out. The conductor notifies the BART police station. Out of the travelers that the BART officers tried to arrest, Grant was one of the people who was restrained by officers Ingram and Caruso, and was minutes later shot in the back by officer Ingram. He was urgently transported to the hospital, where he ends up dying in surgery. Officer Ingram told his partner and the judge that he was reaching for his taser and not his gun. After months and years of police training, I feel as if you should be certified enough to know the difference between the two. Due to Grant’s death, numerous protest and riots across his hometown occurred and the videos of this incident were leaked, that were recorded by multiple eyewitnesses. The officers who were included in this commotion were fired and eventually, Ingram was later tried and found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, and served an 11-month sentence; not long enough. Another movie regarding this issue is called Do the Right Thing, written and directed by Spike Lee. Mookie works at the pizzeria in his neighborhood, that …show more content…

When the police arrive, they pull Raheem off of Sal and arrest Buggin’ Out and Raheem.
