There are a plethora themes in this story, perhaps the utmost observable and distinguishable theme is the price for knowledge. Throughout the exposition of the story, the reader witnesses Johns’ tribe clueless about metals. In the story, it states “...he who touches the metal must be a priest or the son of a priest...He gave me the metal to hold—I took it and did not die…”. This portrays how concealed they are about knowledge, they presume he who touches metal ought to be a priest, if not, consequently, you die. Moreover, John doesn’t comprehend how self-explanatory utensils work. In the story, this occurs, “...In the washing-place, a thing said ‘Hot’ but it was not hot to the touch—another thing said ‘Cold’ but it was not cold. This must have been a strong magic, but the magic was gone, I do not understand—they had ways—I wish that I knew...”. This displays how John is oblivious to how a sink works, furthermore, it’s even frustrating for him being in the dark about how the gods function or live. In conclusion, knowledge comes at a price, but it could also lead to our demise.
Rules of the laws should be followed at all times even if the law provides the north, west, and south as good hunting grounds and prohibits anyone from going to the east. The Dead Places are also off limits for everyone except a priest or the son of a priest. They are allowed to go there when they are in search for metal. After the metal has been discovered, both the man and the metal must be purified. Those are the laws and therefore they must be followed. The strictest law is the prohibition of anyone crossing the great river and looking at the Place of the Gods. It is forbidden because of the demons and spirits that are there. In the work of The Bhagavad-gītā and the work of Job both the main protagonists of each work, Arjuna and Job, seek guidance and wisdom from their respective gods. Arjuna seek for guidance from Krishna during the war and job from his god for why he has been suffering. Each god from the works responds to their person but each respond in a different way. In the work, Bhagavad-gītā Krishna gives Arjuna a straight forward answer. On the other hand, the god in the work Job does not. Each work shows how the relationship bet ween the gods and the humans work. In the Indian culture the gods is someone who can show the people the way but in the Hebrew culture their god test the loyalty of the humans. In both cultures from the works the people will seek their gods for guidance and wisdom but the outcomes are not the same in both places. There are similarities and differences between how the relationships between people and the gods work in the different cultures.
The Fall of the House of Usher composed by Edgar Allan Poe and A Rose for Emily made by William Faulkner are very similar considering they both come from the gothic spectrum of short stories. However, they are very different and of course they’d be different since if you’d look at their authors they come from two different backgrounds of life. Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, so he’d have a different perspective of life since William Faulkner was born in Mississippi they’d have been taught different yet similar values of life. Edgar was born way earlier than William, so he might’ve believed things that were fake and in William’s time everyone knew that thing was a lie. In this book the author uses many different characters with different personalities. Some main characters in the book is John, he is the son of linda. John doesn’t really know anything about the world and doesn’t really fit in. In the seventh chapter it says ““Why wouldn’t they let me be the sacrifice? I’d have gone round ten times-twelve, fifteen”(Huxley).This is a perfect example of how he doesn’t fit in, and how they don’t really want anything to do with him.

Ms. Martin is a well acclaimed director, having many of her projects nominated for prestigious awards such as Cadillac records, Firelight, and I Like it Like That. Martin also won best new director in 1994, with her release of I Like it Like That. Most recently, Martin directed the season seven episode of the Walking Dead, “Go Getters.” The tone of this Lore episode, as well as that Walking Dead episode, is extremely different than other Darnell Martin projects. Darnell Martin’s Lore episode “They made a Tonic” includes fast-paced, intimidating music, black and white imagery, the use of the narrator Aaron Mahnke, and a surprise twist ending to produce a frightening and entertaining episode of Lore.

The “Waters Of Babylon” is an optimistic story. The story revolves around the protagonist John as he makes his way to the forbidden “Place of the Gods”. Once in the Place of the Gods he realizes that this place was not inhabited by Gods but instead by humans (page 8). After this epiphany, John understands that his people could accomplish the achievements from past. On page 8 he says, “Nevertheless we make a beginning . . . We must build again.”
In the short story “By the Waters of Babylon” the author Stephen Vincent Benét conveys the theme, “truth is a hard deer to hunt, if you eat too much of it at once, you may die of the truth” (Benét, 255). Which is a hyperbolic metaphor that means truth is like knowledge, hard to find. So, if too much of it is eaten at once, death is likely; as in truth is dangerous and hard to regulate among people if it is boundless. When the protagonist John was tired after travelling to the forbidden Place of Gods seeking knowledge, he fell asleep in one of the big dead-houses. He dreamed about the gods when they were alive long ago. He was terrified by the tools and knowledge the gods had and
John Q a factory worker faces one of the worst parental situations. His son is going to die if he does not get a heart transplant as soon as possible. Once a man that tightens tightly to morality is now on the edge of what it seems ethical and unethical. He tries to get help from his medical insurance to pay the expenses of the operation, but they let go of his hand because what John contributes every month does not qualify him to finance such an extremely expensive operation. His son, meanwhile, oblivious to the sufferings of the father, comes closer and closer to death. Then there is a change in John 's good that will give birth to another man, a consciousness that will lead him to act, to rebel, without caring about transgressing the values that up to then supported his existence. Finally, he decides that the life of his son is worth more than any rule or law.

The Jewish people already has strong ties and believes in God, however there was some debate whether the Jewish’s people believes that Jesus was the Messiah and or the Son of God. According to C. S. Lewis he made a statement about Jesus and John wholeheartedly agreed with, Lewis wrote “Jesus is lunatic, liar, or Lord”.
