Even though it can be stressful to have to tell someone that their work isn 't correct, it can still be very beneficial to that person. After the first peer review I became more accepting to the idea of letting someone tell me what was wrong with my paper. I think it’s a great way to get another persons view on your paper. Along with peer reviews are revisions plans and they too can be beneficial because that gives the writer the opportunity to see their mistakes and correct them. On all my assignments I have used these tools and I have also visited the writing center on one of my assignments, which was very helpful.
But I was also similar to you, sort of jumping around from group to group, not being narrowed to only one group of friends. Overall, it was nice because like you said, in every group, you would most likely find one interest that you guys shared and could talk about. Great post!
Alexander Solxhenitsyn once said, "Good literature substitutes for an experience which we have not ourselves lived through. " This quote means that good authors have the ability to help transport the reader to an event that they have never experienced by giving vivid details, figurative language, and easy to comprehend text. I agree with this statement. Two works of literature that support this statement are “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut and “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara.
This quote is very inspiring. This was just one example of how Morrie put everyone else before himself. Morrie is on death’s doorstep but, he manages somehow to care about the feelings and lives of others more than his last months. This teaches me that a lot of things can make people feel good.
While reading the assigned articles, Begley and Heilbroner, I left comments in the margins as well as underlining quotes that stuck out to me that I could potentially use in my essay. Another objective that I struggled with is the idea of properly combining my ideas with the ideas of others. I understand that doing this can make your paper stronger. It can help open more doors and help you go someplace in your paper you didn’t think you could go. I feel like it was easy for me to add quotes and to explain more of what I wanted to talk about, but it was a challenge to figure out paraphrasing and summarizing the ideas of others that I could use in my unit 3 paper without
Short stories are a beautiful thing, mainly due to the fact that anybody can read them. You don’t have that anxiety of opening a new novel with uncertainty that you’ll finish the entire piece, and the satisfaction you feel when you reach the end is better than ever. Not having time to finish a novel once you’ve started it is extremely discouraging, and can make you want to give up reading all together. However, with short stories you will always feel that feeling of accomplishment once you’ve gotten lost in the characters and experienced something new. You may love it so much that it acts as an incentive to pick up another story to read.
By being exposed to different types of literature, I have observed they often use empathy to place the readers in each character’s shoes. By doing so, the reader will be able to understand the perspective of each character, as authors want you to. Though their perspectives are different, it is the similarities and comparisons between such that allow the readers to have a better understanding. Often these themes will show a conflict and a resolution; such as a character tolerating the judgement of society, to a resolution where the character accepts that they do not need to pay any heed to the
According to Thomas C. Foster, the reading experience is more rewarding when a person can take a step back from the work and look at both patterns and symbols that could spur imagination. This confirms that writers leave room for people to make a conscious effort to look deeper into the writing and to have more of an interaction with the story. In Dropping in the author primarily repeats the phrase “think of” so the reader will continue to imagine their personal experience. For example, the author includes the phrases, “Think of the relentless sun, the expansive silence between attempts, the vertigo-inducing landscape.” And “Think of how so few people have ever actually been here, and how, whether they came to hide or skate, they came in exile.”
Rhetorical strategies don't just convey a piece of writing under a certain category, but place them in a way that truly affect how a reader sees them. Author’s opinion can allow for a reader to connect directly with the tone of work that Roberts is trying to display. Lastly, personal comparisons can make a reader learn from their mistakes by using the information given in the text. All Roberts wants to do is better any writers willing to seriously try, and by following the steps in “How to Say Nothing in 500 Words,” the task becomes much simpler. I have already grown so much from just reading what he has to offer.
In the end, i would most certainly recommend this memoir to anyone and everyone else. I will most likely reread this work in the future on my own time. I’m sure the person i will recommend it too will have trouble putting it down like i did and the person who recommended it to me
The way he describes the story make me feel as if I am right there with him, going through what he is going though. I think that everybody is
This exchange of ideas helps the writer to engage the reader in a
You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks Tim Johnson was a recognizable dog in Maycomb County, Alabama. Tim Johnson was regarded as “The pet of Maycomb county”(105). This title is very interesting. This means Tim Johnson is the mascot for the people of Maycomb. Tim Johnson’s owner was Mr. Harry Johnson.
John Lewis is trying to get people to get on his side, he is using the cry “one man one vote” as his own too, to make his speech sound better and hook people in with a sympathetic feeling behind it, crying out “ ‘one man one vote’ is our cry too” gets the crowd going and makes the law enforcement think about what they’re doing. John Lewis reminds the audience that colored people need voting rights, and that they are human too, just like white people used to fight for their voting rights colored people are willing to fight for them as well, Lewis also states that many colored people want to vote and want their voices and opinions to be heard. In other words, the government claims to be helping all the people with their phrase “separate but equal”,
According to C.S. Lewis heaven and hell are very different because from the way that we see the world. In the book he talks to different people who all have different views of what they think heaven and hell are like. For example, the tousle headed poet who says that society has vulgarized intellect. He says that they don’t want new geniuses because intellectuals aren’t appreciated anymore. He also goes into detail about how his parents never appreciated him and how a former girlfriend hurt him.
