C.S. Lewis was a renowned author, philosopher, and storyteller. He was widely recognized for his academic intelligence and written classics. One notable aspect of his life occurred during Lewis’s transition from youth into adulthood, when he decided to convert to Christianity. This conversion process was not simple, as he had been heavily influenced by his friends and his father’s death. Soon after, he wrote and published many books of creative literature. That you do not have to always fight fire with fire. Through the course of his life, John Lewis experienced some key turning points that shaped him into becoming the determined and brave leader he was. Lewis was not alone during these major events as several people, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Jim Lawson, helped him during these times and expanded his knowledge. The trilogy March demonstrates some of these turning points in books one and two, those being his first bible, spiritual journey, the non-violent workshops, and arrests. The graphic memoir, March, is a biography about Congressman John Lewis’ young life in rural Alabama which provides a great insight into lives of black families in 1940s and 50s under Jim Crow and segregation laws. March opens with a violent march at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, which the gruesome acts later became known as “Bloody Sunday,” during this march, 600 peaceful civil rights protestors were attacked by the Alabama state troopers for not listening to their commands. The story then goes back and forth depicts Lewis growing up in rural Alabama and President Obama’s inauguration in 2009. This story of a civil rights pioneer, John Lewis, portrays a strong influence between geography, community, and politics. The correlation between these pillars of March is that they have to coexist with other in order for John Lewis to exist that the world knows today.

In the novel Jasper Jones the protagonist Charlie is faced with racial aggravation towards his friend Jeffery and his family. As the story progresses, even though they seem small at the time, these racial stereotypes have cruel and unfounded aggravation. Silvey uses a range of language techniques to emphasise how unjustified the racial aggravation is. Jeffery is considered a racial outsider by the villagers and this is evident by the way they treat him.

Some examples of the key events was when Mr. Ostrowski lectured Malcolm, when Malcolm was in jail and he learned the teachings of Elijah Muhammad, and when Malcolm made his pilgrimage to Mecca. A closer look at the central ideas would show that they build on one another.
