There has been an uproar lately about concealed carry on campus. Many politicians are pushing for increased gun control while many in the south or those affiliated with the NRA are actually pushing to have less gun laws. In this day in time is it really guns that can save us? In one of my classes we had a debated about the concealed carry law that Texas was shortly going to pass. It was actually yesterday, August 1, that they have now begun to allow students over the age of 21 to carry their concealed licenses on their college campus.
With recent attacks on college campuses and the Charlottesville riot, many question if hate speech should be restarted for a sense of security in the nations community. hate speech should have a protection policy because it will provide a bigotry free zone for students and from psychological studies hate speech triggers violence. Sense of security, emotional distractions and an increase of absences are main factors on why college campuses should pass a restriction on hate speech. First, a restriction on hate speech allows a sense of security on the campus. College campuses like Berkley have reached out to try and propose an amendment that would ban hate speech and remove speakers like Ben Shapiro from giving a speech on their campus.
This should not be a worry for the child or parents but it has to be because at this point any school is a threat. So a possible factor in decreasing shootings is arming teachers, by doing this teachers can fight back instead of shielding or running from the shooter. Reason #2 teachers can defend their students by changing this law and using correct training teachers should be able to carry a weapon. By doing this not only insure safety it will give relief for parents all over the country. This tactic will give school staffs a chance to outnumber a possible shooter.
Students/faculty making brash decisions to disinvite speakers because of one thing from the speaker’s past is mental filtering. For a person to be allowed to speak on campus, they must be considered pure by the students and staff, or at least from their background
But that would not resolve the problem. Teachers and people who do not work at school will still carry a treat. I think in the discussion about weapons at schools the decision should be same for both sides. It means both teachers and students should be allowed or not allowed to carry guns. This decision will cause a chaos and violence at first sight.

have the right to protect yourself. Face to face with a madman and his gun, the last thing we want is to be left defenseless. This is why I am a student for concealed firearms on campus. I believe the most efficient defense against an out-of-control triggerman on campus is other armed students and professors who can shoot back and stop the carnage. School campuses are not places common people feel concerned enough to protect themselves with a gun.
Cutterham states that on campus, “social media can…[link] together voices that are otherwise marginalized and disconnected” (2). While critics claim students are losing their critical thinking skills, Cutterham states that “students are using their critical faculties to uncover structures of power in their own academic and social environment” (2). He also states that professors and other educators are becoming more “coddled” than their students and are afraid that their mishaps and small mistakes will cause them to be torn to shreds (2). He also says that in wanting students to end protests “for their own good”, they are trying to protect themselves. This is the change in dynamic that is Cutterham is using for his
The subject of guns could be talked about all the time. School is meant to be a place where someone could be educated freely and not feel imprisoned. Some students might want to feel the need to plan things out with the weapon. “Some many never know that some students would want to take hold of the weapon since it can be accessed easily” (Robertson) which is terrifying to realize. Since these weapons can be accessed easily, students will want to do harm.
For many reasons, guns should not be permitted on a college campus. One of the main reason that guns should not be allowed on a college campus is because it is a safety issue. Even though some people believe that having a gun in college
