Candidate Dupuy briefed an inaccurate mission statement and did not appropriately present a scheme of maneuver or tasks to his subordinates. His operations order lacked critical thought as he sought to regurgitate the information provided to him by higher. As a result, he did not develop an initial plan and his subordinates were unsure of how to begin execution. Following the operations order, Candidate Dupuy was able to regain composure and began to task his subordinates accordingly. SNC was clear and concise in his instructions, and placed himself in a position to effectively control the unit as it attempted to negotiate the obstacle. Candidate Dupuy did not, however, fully appreciate the need to move quickly. The fire team lacked the
SNC during points of friction, SNC struggled to lead his fire team and make decisions in a timely manner in which SNC hesitated to push forward causing the fire team to stay
All the cadets have a place within a direct order of rank. Each knows exactly which cadets are “above” him and which “below.” Each has the power to command and punish those below and the duty to obey those above. The occupant of the lowest position in the hierarchy must find another whom even he can dominate or he is finished. If a cadet fails to exercise his rights over his inferiors, he is despised or demoted.”
Mission command and understanding the mission were critical to whether he and his Soldiers would be successful or not. Throughout the deployment, his firm understanding of operations and concern for the operational environment led to accomplishments and breakthroughs for the Iraqi people and his division with the implementation of governance, civil authorities, and overall improvement of
SNC failed to address security prior to beginning his five paragraph order but tasked a subordinate to provide security only after the brief was concluded. The Orientation paragraph contained minimal information. SNC’s stated “We are operating to get this over there” was his Scheme of Maneuver portion, which was confusing and overly general. SNC failed to assign tasks and addressed minimal portions of the Admin and Logistics paragraph. SNC adequately addressed the remainder of the order, which made sense and was briefed with confidence.
Corporal Dunlap demonstrates great teamwork. He is always happy to assist his fellow officer with incidents by helping them complete necessary documentation, interview witnesses, collecting evidence, or assisting them to write warrants. Whatever is needed, Corporal Dunlap is willing to assist. Corporal Dunlap also provides great assistance to his supervisors by serving as the shift supervisor during their absence. He articulates to officers the department directives and expectations in the absence of their regular supervisor.
Personally, I believe an open line of communication is key to a great environment. If the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, there is bound to be trouble brewing. 9. What is the overall action plan? Mission?
“The General positively beamed. ‘Couldn’t be better! Lashbrooke! Make use of this NCO as a guide! When you get in position I’ll expect you to hold firm, Capitan.’
MacDonald detailed several instances throughout Company Commander where he internally second-guessed himself after giving a particular order. Personal turmoil pepper his account of the campaign, and provide a glimpse into the mindset of a young, inexperienced officer during a tumultuous time. Part of being an effective leader is recognizing the inadequacies not only within yourself, but within your
Candidate Heller briefed a five paragraph order that contained the majority of information his subordinates required to understand their mission; however, how it was to be accomplished was slightly ambiguous, leading to the impression that he was uncertain how to accomplish the mission. Despite this, SNC was able to quickly transition his subordinates into the execution of the problem upon conclusion of his brief. SNC quickly implemented a plan that established his team on a trajectory towards success. Throughout the execution of the problem, SNC never stalled, nor was there a moment of uncertainty among his subordinates. SNC continuously developed his plan to match the given situation, providing his subordinates with clear guidance of what
The observations of this violations occur from the lowest to the highest levels regardless of rank. With the ever-changing operational environment, lots of positions in the Army are being fill by Soldiers with a rank below the requirement. Most Soldiers will look forward to serve in a position above their pay grade, and most of the time the person selecting them have confidence they are going to accomplish the mission. With the lack of experience, lack of time in service and grade, Soldiers can use tools like The High Ground – Facilitator Guide, the leadership requirements model, and others. The primary cause of abuse of power is inexperience and lack of respect for others as a person, and the lack of enforcing standards at all levels.
Issued Mission Orders As a hierarchical organization, the Army relies on orders to emphasize desired results to subordinates. “Commanders use mission orders to provide direction and guidance that focus the forces’ activities on the achievement of the main objective, set priorities, allocate resources, and influence the situation” (Wade, 2015, p. 5-5). General Harrison’s army repulsed disparate Indian attacks because of the guidance and orders issued by the general. Harrison initially ordered his men to stay on high alert and to sleep with their weapons loaded and within reach, indicating to his men that a pre-dawn attack was likely.
Many seem to over emphasize the many privileges gained as an officer and seem to completely overlook the ever more important duties that should be the true motivators. I must ensure to maintain this mindset. I must also remember to put “people first”. (Department of Defense, 1988) This will be a cornerstone in every decision I make.
He was purposeful and successful in attempt to create two possible options, with the acceptance of either leading to troublesome

Not committing to the task could potentially suggest that they were incompetent or lack the capacity as a military personnel so facing ‘dangers’ was a much preferred option. Additionally, discipline in the military can be seen when an officer makes his salutes appropriately, their conduct, to the state of their uniform and even how they present themselves in public. While discipline in military is rewarded as it is a sign of respect and duty, misconduct on the other hand is punishable. When discipline is lacking in an army personnel, it not only affects their own performance but also the team as a whole. It is therefore important to instil discipline early and effectively.
