Competitive advantage has become an important part of doing business and staying in business because it’s what sets a business apart from its competitors. According to Aghamirian and Dorri, (2015) “Competitive advantage is a concept based on economic theories on competitiveness of organizations, emphasizing their particular value in resources that they dispose of, as well as the products and services offered in the market” (p. 65). The competitive analysis will help CanGo standout from its competitors, develop points of difference, recognize competitors, and reevaluate core competencies. Since the introduction of the iPod in 2001 Apple has added a variety of online services that are downloadable and easily accessible by Apple users. According to Finkle and Mallin (2011) “Apple’s business strategy is to bring the best personal computing, portable digital music and mobile communication experience to consumers, students, educators, business, and government agencies through innovative hardware, software, peripherals, services and Internet offerings” (as cited in Apple, Inc. These applications provide customers with ease of purchase and provide quick access to a variety of movies, music, online games, and eBooks right in the palm of the customer’s hand. As convenient as it may be for Apple customers to have access to Apple applications it is also a weakness. CanGo can capitalize on how Apple restricts customers to only Apple’s specific applications to buy music, movies, eBooks and online games. Certainly if Apple has not permitted the sale or has not acquired the license of an online game, a movie, a song, or an eBook the customer will not be able to download it to their Apple devices. Customer will have to wait or be required to buy from an outside source and download it to a non-Apple device. GameFly provides customers with video game rentals for game consoles such as Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox, and Sony Play Station (GameFly, n.d.).
