I believe that the character Captain Jaggery is a villain. I think that a villain is something’s or someone’s actions that impact the plot. This means that their actions, decisions, impact the protagonist’s actions, thoughts, or feelings. Some character traits of a villain would be evil, cruel, rude, and cunning. These seem to be recurring traits of villains outside of the book. Captain Jaggery is pretty evil. Evil is kind of a broad term for a villian but I think it works for Captain Jaggery’s actions. Evil describes all of his wrong doings such as beating cranick, and Zachariah. Evil also applies when he decides to frame Charlotte for Mr HollyBrass’s death. He does things that are considered immoral and wicked, the two main principles of …show more content…
In the book we hear about how he mercilessly beat Mr Cranick. This is of course, unspeakably cruel considering he lost his arm after the beating. Later he beats Zachariah after Charlotte doesn’t choose someone to be punished. He nearly kills him with how cruelly he deals the punishment. This is one of the ways that Captain Jaggery demonstrates the character traits of a villain Another trait of Captain Jaggery is being rude. It could also be described as bossy. He is a no tolerance Captain who will yell at you for a little mistake. In my personal opinion that is extremely rude. He doesn’t treat the crew very well. We know that because his own crew wants him dead! So that's another reason why he’s a villain. My last trait for Captain Jaggery is that he does things that are cunning. One example of this is when he kills Mr HollyBrass and strategically makes it look like it was Charlotte who killed Mr HollyBrass. Another example is at the beginning of the book when He appears so kind, so noble, but in all reality he is a horrible person. That deception is a part of being cunning. Up until Charlotte's voyage he seemed to always avoid being brought to justice. This is yet another reason that Captain Jaggery is a
Knowing is good, but knowing all is better. Based on an actual incident, Gary Paulsen's book Nightjohn showcases this life lesson. In the story young Sarny, a slave, is taught to read and write by a fellow slave, John. She knows that as a slave that reading is dangerous. But she takes that chance, because she knows wisdom is sharper than any weapon.
Bayard puts distance between himself and his father’s legacy by leaving to go college as a Law Major. Since the day Bayard and Ringo killed Grumby and nailed his body to the old compress, Bayard has struggled with the reality that he took someone’s life. This event makes him realize how much death the war had caused. As well as the war, Colonel Sartoris was the cause of many deaths because of his vengeful nature. As Bayard is readying to leave Professor Wilkins' house he realizes he is the head of the Sartoris family.
In life, a lot of people are overprotective of others and it’s mostly toward loved ones, after all, people want to protect the ones they want to keep around for a long time. In “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky is very protective of her brother Raymond because he cannot protect himself. These are three reasons why I think Squeaky is very protective of Raymond. This is the first reason that shows how protective Squeaky is of Raymond is that when people run into her she takes everything seriously when she is with Raymond or if it’s about him. For example, when Gretchen came up to Squeaky and Raymond and they started talking then when Mary asked “What grade you in now, Raymond?”
However, his public persona, marked by a lack of humility and confrontational interactions, deviates from the teachings of love, compassion, and modesty that are central to the Christian
Why are villains the ones who make the plot more shadowy? Leaving clues, making crazy decisions and blaming fault on others. Villain, are the most amazing character in the story where they lead to corruption of society or civilization. Jack from Lord of the Flies and Abigail from the Crucible wear masks to hide their true behavior and to fit into their community. Abigail and Jack appear to have a lot in common at first glance, they are remarkably similar.
A villain is the same way. Without immorality, the villain has no substance to make him great. Without self-centeredness, the villain cannot rise to be the greatest villain he can be. Without cowardice, the base for a villain, the villain, is no villain at all. Edward Bloor, the author of Tangerine, makes Erik Fisher, from the recipe for a perfect villain.
An antagonist is someone that’s supposed to make it harder on the protagonist to get what they want. In the book that person would obviously be Roger Chillingworth. He tries to make Hesters lovers life hard and in turn messes with her. But in the whole of the book Roger has personally messed with Hester once. The only person to constantly antagonize Hester is Pearl.
The villain I chose was, The Grinch. I chose this evil villain because the Grinch is miserable and hates anyone who is happy so the Grinch attempts to take happiness away. A villain is a character whose actions are responsible for, specified trouble , harm, or damage. The Grinch is a evil character in, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. This revenge-seeking green creature goes out of his way to "steal" Christmas from the people of Whoville.
It is essential for one to understand the nature of a character’s villainy before coming to a conclusion. For example, in Fahrenheit 451 our main villain is Captain John Beatty, the Fire Chief at the fire station at which Montag works. His villainy is not out of simple abhorrence for our protagonist, but out of experience with the same curiosity and the very same newfound indulgence in forbidden knowledge. His villainy is not to sabotage Montag, no, for it serves a far greater purpose to the story in its whole. Beatty is the alternative Montag, he may have ended up the same way had the circumstances been so.
He is displayed as the most malevolent character in the entire book due to his single-minded pursuits of retribution.
Another group of characters that show flaws are the story's antagonist the
The Villain is the main force opposing the Hero. They are cunning and determined, going to great extents to achieve their wish. Mordred, King Arthur’s son, is the classic Villain. The illegitimate son of King Arthur born out of wedlock with his half-sister Queen Margawse of Orkney, Mordred’s existence was not known by King Arthur. Merlin prophesied that King Arthur’s kingdom would be razed to the ground by Mordred and that Mordred did after he became a Knight of the Round Table.
He is the one who trains them in fighting and encourages them to defend themselves and their honor. Darry is fiercely protective of the gang and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe. As Ponyboy says, "Darry could be tough and hard, but he was always there when you needed him" (Hinton, 71). This quote shows how Darry is a tough and fierce leader and he is always there to support the gang when they need him. It also proves that Darry protects the gang as much as he can even if it takes heavy discipline.
Erik is just a true atrocious villain. Lastly, Erik is selfish and capricious, but he is mostly deceitful. Deceitful is a person who is always sneaky and wants to do things behind someone's back, just like Erik. Erik always wants to be substandard.
Many books possess an evil character, a villain, however the villain normally helps to improve the story and create a depth to the plot. In the work Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck uses the character Curley to show that violence is never the answer. When introduced to anyone new, Curley has to threaten them, because he needs to showcase his role of leadership in the group. However if he showed them kindness instead, people wouldn’t see him as an angry person. For example, Candy warns George to distance himself from Curley, because he has a nasty temper and loves beating up big guys because he is not big.
