Causes of Car Accidents The leading cause of car accident is reckless driving along with countless other factors. There are also a number of other causes that have reported in the relevant studies and literature. These causes include: not wearing a seatbelt, drunk driving, usage of cell phone, poor maintenance etc. It is due to these factors that the rates and incidence of car accidents have been constantly rising A large number of researchers and law enforcement officials have been intrigued with the question about the causes of car accidents. There are a number of sources that have provided support for this assertion. Business Insider, a leading news agency and research centre, has reported that in the United States, that reckless driving is the leading cause of car accidents in the states like Arkansas, Montana, Florida, Louisiana, Colorado, Delaware and many others. In the remaining states of the country, it has been termed the second major cause (Speiser, 2015). However, it is critical to note here that there are a number of sub-factors that contribute to reckless driving. It is due to this reason that numerous other related reasons are cited (Lucidi, Mallia, Violani, Giustiniani & Persia, 2013). It has also been assessed that these factors are becoming worse in highly crowded cities and regions, especially the ones where a large number of people own cars and other motor vehicles (Pompili et al., 2012). In terms of reckless driving, it has been reported that the factors like cell phones usage, alcohol, speed, distractions, perceptual distortions, eating, trying to catch the light, exit and entrance ramps, lack of planning etc. contribute to reckless driving.
