In The Messenger, Ed Kennedy was chosen to help others. To care for people in need and to help people in pareal. It gives his life purpose, meaning and interest. Without the cards in his life, he would end up like his dad. “You [Ed] were sent here to remind yourself that you don't want to end up like your father”.(Page 342) He is grateful for the cards and everything they have done for him. Through the cards, Ed was able to improve his life by improving others. “You [Ed] just used to be… I don't know what you've done but now, you're somebody”.
