This mean more adult children between the ages of 30-55 year of age are now left in a position where they have to be caregivers for their aging parents. This number is expected to rise steadily. TIP #2: According to American Association of Retired People (A.A..R.P), 2008, more than 34 million unpaid caregivers provide care to someone age 18 and older who is ill or has a disability. TIP #3: According to the National Alliance for Caregiving (N.A.C.) 2004, an estimated 21% of households in the United States are impacted by caregiving responsibilities. Caregiving is best for people who can adapt quickly, and accept change easily. TIP #14: What makes a good caregiver? It is a set of qualities that certain human beings possess and others do not. It is all about personality and how that personality fits with the patient and the members of their family. TIP #15: Caregivers solve problems. As the caregiver you can help the patient deal with these challenges and get through any problems that come up. One of them is to call all the doctors involved in the patient’s care and tell them about any pain or side effects from medications. TIP #16: How a person accepts criticism is usually a reliable indication of whether or not they feel responsible for their patient. Anyone who cannot admit past mistakes should be viewed with suspicion. Caregivers who place blame for things that go wrong everywhere but themselves are not to be trusted.
