Company Background: Dell Computer was founded by Michael Dell in 1984, while he was a student at the University of Texas, Austin. Dell began by selling upgrades of IBM-compatible PCs and in 1985 began to sell its own brand of PCs. From the beginning, Dell operated on the direct sales model, taking orders over the phone and building PCs to the customer’s specifications.

GM reports that Buick has had its best sales ever in China in the first eight months of the year. The brand’s sales increased 5.4 % year on year to 581,544 units. Envision’s contribution to the brand was not huge (57,000 units in the first half) but it is growing now. The increasing share of Buick Envision in the brand’s total sales is also financially beneficial for the company.

Within a year they had taken the number one position (Gartner, 2002). Their success was to be short-lived and by 2009 they had fallen to third place (Gartner, 2010).
