Practical Study of organization The organization that I have chosen is Dell Computers as the organization has integrated its entire infrastructure using information technology. Dell focused on the relationship with the customer, but in order to sustain a high growth rate while providing necessary customer service. Company Background: Dell Computer was founded by Michael Dell in 1984, while he was a student at the University of Texas, Austin. Dell began by selling upgrades of IBM-compatible PCs and in 1985 began to sell its own brand of PCs. From the beginning, Dell operated on the direct sales model, taking orders over the phone and building PCs to the customer’s specifications.
For example, the new SUV, Buick Envision 20T was launched in April and has been a big hit for GM in China. GM reports that Buick has had its best sales ever in China in the first eight months of the year. The brand’s sales increased 5.4 % year on year to 581,544 units. Envision’s contribution to the brand was not huge (57,000 units in the first half) but it is growing now. The increasing share of Buick Envision in the brand’s total sales is also financially beneficial for the company.

When I joined them in 2000 they were the second largest personal computer (PC) manufacturer in the world, with a growth rate nearly twice that of the market (Gartner, 2001). Within a year they had taken the number one position (Gartner, 2002). Their success was to be short-lived and by 2009 they had fallen to third place (Gartner, 2010). What were the factors which led to their initial success and why did they cease to deliver an advantage?
