When there are problems in the home and / or a child hangs out with the wrong kind of peer they can turn to bad things. This is happening in the case of Billy. Billy is having some delinquent behaviors and has been moved from foster home to foster home due to his behaviors. The neighborhood he resides in may not be the best influence on him. We need to find a way to help Billy live a more positive lifestyle. “Youth who begin delinquent activities early are at greatest risk for becoming chronic offenders ((McWhirter, 2012).” The risk factors impacting this case could be the neighborhood where he is living. This social influence can have a large effect on Billy’s behavior. The largest social environment for children is their families and …show more content…
He may still be having emotional issues and be having a hard time due to this. His behaviors may be the result of built up anger or emotions that he has not dealt with yet. This happens often especially if Billy has not had any type of therapy or counseling due to this. Some things that we can do to address the first issue could be to put him into a mentoring program to keep him off the street and away from the gangs and bad influences. This could be an after school program or like a big brother/sister program Maybe switching school would be a good way to go also. “Data indicates that a ubiquitous mentoring program can serve as a support system for vulnerable children (ALCAZAR-BEJERANO, 2015).” Another way we can address this issue is by changing schools. There are many of the neighborhood children that attend his school so changing schools may be a good option. There are private schools that the foster family may be able to get grants for, charter schools and even home schooling. This will hopefully limit the time Billy is around other peers that are not good influences on …show more content…
Therapy is meant to be a process to work through trauma and help a child understand what has happened to him. It also aims to help a child function better in the world around him. However, therapy is not a cure-all. Some vulnerabilities of trauma (even with the best foster parents and the best therapists) often remain with a child and may need to be dealt with at a future time (ACRF, 1999).” This could be a positive thing for all of them. Billy may not feel so alone if he has someone to talk to and can help him figure out his feelings. He may feel abandoned by his biological parents and may still be suffering emotionally from the abuse. “In addition to learning to deal with feelings, young people can learn to behave more responsibly if they are taught to do so (McWhirter, 2012).” Another way of dealing with the issue could be moving to a new foster home. This is less than ideal solution but it may have to be
The article ties the two main focus’ together to show how a child’s internal behavior such as depression, anxiety, withdrawn self-esteem; and external behaviors such as incarceration, pregnancy, homelessness, substance abuse, defiance, and running away can be greatly altered based on how he or she is treated in a foster home (Orme & Buehler, 2001). Introduction
The following is a case study for Anamalia, Kokomalu and Eloni, a family that has been torn apart due to the aggressive nature of Eloni, who has physically abused his younger brother, has been suspended from school temporarily for attempting to stab a fellow classmate and is showing signs of substance abuse. Eloni has been placed in foster care and the family has been referred to counseling. During Eloni’s counseling sessions it was discovered that he was abused by his previous step-father and is showing signs of PTSD. Impact It has been shown that children that are placed in foster care or torn from their families experience a lack of trust for their parents.
“Countless Chases”, something that occurred during the famous outlaw “Billy the kid”. He was neutrous for theft and gunfights. He lived a short and adventurous life. Billy was part of the New Mexico’s Lincoln County war. An event which lost countless lives.
This made them look good for what he has done. The first crime of Billy the kid was stealing clothes. He was only 16 years of age. It only escaladed from here.
Even though his testimony helped to indict one of the power House faction leaders, John Dolan, the district attorney defied Wallace’s order to set Billy free after testifying. However, Billy was a skilled escape artist and slipped out of his handcuffs and fled. For the next year, he hung around Fort Sumner on the Pecos River and developed a fateful friendship with a local bartender named Pat Garrett, who was later elected sheriff of Lincoln County. As sheriff, Garrett was charged with arresting his friend Henry McCarty, who by now was almost exclusively known as “Billy the Kid. ”At about the same time, Billy had formed a gang, referred to as the “Rustlers” or simply “Billy the Kid’s Gang,” who survived by stealing and rustling as he did before.
People even compare Billy the kid to Jesse James too. If this young man died at a young age and was the hot topic back in the day, he must have a good life story. How did Billy the kid end up going down the wrong path? Must’ve had a rough early life. Well, he did.
Billy the kid, also known as William H. Bonney, was an outlaw in the wild west. He was best known for his gun fighting and being a thief. The Kid had been on the run basically his whole life and he also participated in New Mexico’s Lincoln County war which was between the ranchers and the merchants. Billy didn’t have a very easy childhood which may be the reason he was so brutal and killed.
Billy had more skill then most of the team, he thought by playing at the division three level he would receive more playing time then he was actually getting. Half way through the season he was very upset and developed a strong dislike
But sometimes, due to certain unfortunate circumstances, children have to suffer separation from their family of origin for their own betterment. They need to be placed under state care, in some other family, so that their future is secured. Foster care is intended to be a short term solution until a permanent placement can be made. The work of healing children and families in foster care starts with the child welfare system, but it does not end there.
Because of Dependent Personality Disorder, not only did Billy feel the need to have a relationship with someone but his relationship was ruined because of his fearful
The boys sought for this experiment were already delinquent, and as noted this was a case study, these were unique individuals and as such the findings cannot be generalized to the larger population of the United States, California or even Oakland. Another fact that must be noted is that the author utilized snowball sampling, the author went to community organizations and asked to be connected to ‘at risk’ kids, and when he established communication with some of the young men, he asked them to refer him to other youths in similar situations. The author also makes note of the fact that his own experiences as a child may have had a bias on his
Evoking images of purity, he is described as “welkin-eyed,” even given the innocent nickname of “Baby Budd” (44). Even now, he starts to cross the boundary from humanity into the divine, without any clear reason or justification for being able to do so; rather, he does so merely through how others view him. When comparing this first impression with the end of the novel, I believe that Billy is painted in a divine fashion in both part; the exalting diction remains constant between both parts. This highlights that for Billy, regardless of his actions leading up to the resolution of his story, he is destined to end pure. Any sense of justice delivered to him for his actions becomes effectively irrelevant given the resolution of his character.
In almost everything he does he is the odd man out. Billy seems like the weird person who just always seems out of place and like he doesn't belong. 1969 was the year that this book was published. PTSD was discovered in 1980, so therefore in the book they couldn't define Billy’s condition. As even in reality they didn't know what it was.
When children are taken from their homes at a young age and placed in a foster home they are already create a form of disconnection, yet when taking them from their siblings their familial connections are torn away ten times faster. Siblings provide leadership, care, and challenger in each other's lives, siblings are meant to guide one another and help their family in tough times. When one doesn't have their sister or brother to be their guide, the child may not join the right crowd. Then the serious issue of full disconnection from all relationships. When one is separated from so many things all at once, it is very rare for that child to form a bond, with the adults or the other foster children.
Without this attachment, children can often experience varying emotional, social, and behavioral effects. In contrast to children placed in institutional care, those who were formerly in foster care “had a higher percentage of secure attachment representations and a lower percentage of insecure representations” (Nowacki & Schoelmerich, 2010, p. 556). Another study had also found a correlation between the presence of social support mental health in youth who are aging out of foster care and who were victims of maltreatment. The youths who were perceived to have higher levels of social support showed fewer symptoms of depression (Salazar, Keller & Courtney, 2011). In addition, research has examined the adult outcomes of children in foster with at least one mentoring relationship.
